| P/T State Worker | I'm trying to upgrade the firmware, i have version 1 on my router and the one im trying to upgrade is v4.20.7. The reason for doin so is that i can't seem to be downloading anything from my newsgroups. When i had it setup on my friends wireless network i was able to do it fine. I went to the linksys website to download this Linksys WRT54G Wireless Broadband Router, the firmware .exe file.... last time when i upgraded my modem, i told it to go to a certain file and was able to upgrade it... When i run the Firmware Upgrade Utility it can't seem to get responses from the server. I tried pluging a network cable straight to the router from my laptop but it still can't seem to get a response either... Anyone have a linksys router or know what i can do to upgrade my firmware? Thanks. |

| Cheap Bastard | First of all, make sure you're downloading the right firmware for your router, since there are several revisions of the router itself. You don't want to fuck your router up by flashing it with the wrong firmware, do you? You can check which revision you have by looking at the sticker on the bottom. It should say something like, "WRT54G v3.1." BTW, don't download the autoexecutable file. Download the zipped file and unzip it to a directory. Now, what you should do is use DHCP for the time being, so that the network will autodetect most of the settings for you. Physically connect your PC to the router with an ethernet cable. Then login and go to Administration > Configuration Management > Backup if you want to save your settings before flashing the router. Now go to Firmware Upgrade and browse for the folder with the unzipped firmware. Press Upgrade and wait. You should be done! |

| Cheap Bastard | You know? It's incredible, but most online translators aren't worth shit! Either way, that's one phrase which can't be translated literally. It's from some song that was a smashing hit back in Venezuela sometime during the early '90s. It's something to the effect of, "I have a little ball that goes up and down! Hey!" And you gotta say it fast several times.... |
