Well, I finally got my Windows partition set up the way I wanted it, imaged it with Ghost, and popped in the Ubuntu 6.10 install CD and POW! Xserver errors, "no screens found". I've downloaded the alternate install and will try that shortly, but it would appear this is going to be harder than I anticipated.

I ended up leaving that 40GB drive out of my build by the way. It's a pretty insignificant sized drive to be in there drawing power and putting off heat so I just split the 250GB drive down the middle - 125GB for Windows and 125GB for Ubuntu.

well, you do have the latest and greatest card out, got to give it time for drivers to come out.

The drivers are out, but the Live CD apparently doesn't have them. It'll just be a bit more of a pain to install it I guess. The real pisser to me was that even VGA mode didn't work...

What xserver are you using? I never used Ubuntu, Xfree86 or XOrg?

If you can't get the 8800 to run on the mainstream XServers, maybe give this a shot:
The GGI Project
And here is an XServer that can run on it:
XGGI - X server for LibGGI

You won't be able to do anything with the 3d graphics acceleration, but you will be able to run a GUI.

haha is anyone using xfree still? I thought everyone switched to xorg after the debacle (minus darwin/OSX).

and like they said, give it time. maybe try the nv driver, that should at least get you 2d support.
