Hey guys,

i'm not such an overclocking enthusiast as i used to be. At the moment i'm planning my next upgrade (first one in 3 years). I'm currently running an Athlon 64 3500+ on an nForce 4 Ultra MSI board (worst choice i could make) with 2GB of RAM.
For the first time since my good old Pentium 2 (233 o/c at 300MHz ) i'm going with Intel. I don't know what it is about AMD, but at the moment they don't seem to offer the cpu of choice for me).

Aaaanyway, here's the setup I chose. It's rather basic (I don't need all the kiddie stuff like SLI, not even RAID, WLAN, etc.):

CPU: Intel Q9450 (Quad 2.66)
HSF: AC Freezer 7 Pro
Mb: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3
RAM: 4GB Corsair XMS2 DHX DDR2-800

The rest i can take from my current system, like my Lian-Li case, vga (7900 GT/GTO), hdd (200gb samsung sata), dvd-rw.

Besides your comments to that setup (which are welcome btw), I have another question: Can i use my current PSU (Nexus, 400W) with this setup? I think 400W should be enough for such a system. I could look that up, but that would be no fun - i finally wanted to utilize that forum again

Dark, you can't come soon enough for me.

If your ps have the motherboard connection for the cpu I dont see why not. Also you did not put what video card you are going to run. That is the most demanding thing on your computer.

Mmhh... i'm gonna keep my current card - a modded GeForce 7900 GTO 512MB. It's quite demanding, I guess.

Edit: Btw, I added a link of my system config to my signature so that you can see my rig in full glory

Hmm tough to say if its enough. Im sure you could, but if you can afford to get a 500+ I would. They are fairly cheap. Don't know about where you are though.

I'd get a zalman cooler, quieter probably.

a nexus PSU was on there at the bottom of the list with a 7. If it supports the new mobo connection I don't see any reason to upgrade it. Unless it is a cheap POS.

I make myself laugh.

Well, the AC is cheap, and it's really really silent. I've spent loads of money on extra-class hsfs, yet the cheapo ACs I've built in other peoples systems have mostly been as silent. This time, I'm gonna save my money

Nah, it was quite expensive, because i wanted a reliable, silent psu. I think I'm gonna try it then.
