So...as is implied I am looking for a wireless router. My new laptop will do a/b/g, but no draft-n or whatnot. I've been looking into the Linksys WRT54G series, but can't make a decision. Can anyone recommend this series? If so, which exact model. If not, which would you recommend?

Here's a few guidelines, must be less than $70. Must be G, but not necessarily A compliant. Must be firewalled, and have VPN. I'll only be using 1 VPN connection at a time. Also must have wired ports.

Its a good no headache router - its what I have used for almost a year now....never had a problem with it....I didn't get the one with the speedbooster - but I haven't had an issue so its fine.....

WRT54G is a huge letdown. The new versions are trash. I was much more impressed with my D-link Di-524.

I can totally vouch for WRT54G's. Agree with saying its headache free very reliable. I've had some issues with other brands. D-Link, Netgear. I used to have two. One I used a hacked firmware to use as an ethernet bridge. Good router nonetheless. I can't say much about the new versions as I have a fairly old one. But surely they can't be that much different. I dunno. heh.

I've been using the WRT54GS for over a year without even so much as a hickup. The security is good, which is handy, seeing as how I'm in range of 3 other networks in the apartment complex I live in. That's how good the range is on these puppys.

Get out of the box, then recycle it.

Like I said the old versions are good. v5 is almost not even the same router anymore. Look up the review on there internet.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WRT54G

You'd want the WRT54G version 3.1 or 4.0; WRT54GS the 3.0 version; WRT54GL v1.1; WRTSL54GS v1.0. I use DD-WRT firmware on mine and i love it.

I make myself laugh.
