| Senior Member | Genuine Intel family 6 etc doesn't mean much to me, is that a P3 or p4? what frequency(mhz/ghz) does it run at? A fast gaming PC will need at least 512mb of RAM, preferably 1gb. A geforce 6800 (vanilla, no GT or Ultra) is probably the best video card option right now for price/performance. I wouldn't consider anything less, save for a 9800pro if you can find a nice deal on one (but that card is getting old and is probably only worth considering because of low price). If you're willing to spend $300-$500 on the video card you could look at geforce 6800GTs or Ultras, or Radeon x800s or x850s. If you've got at least a 2.4ghz P4, I'd say keep that and build from there, but I don't really pay attention to Intel products so I'm not going to say anything else about that. |

| Senior Member | in that case: cpfre, there's no point adding stuff to your current computer. You're going to want to grab a whole new one to play games on. I'd look at an Athlon64 with the ram and video cards I mentioned earlier. Think about getting an nforce4-SLI motherboard. That way you can buy a decent video card that isn't too costly now, and down the road you can grab another to almost double 3d performance. |
