| Tweak Minion | I need a new router because my Dlink isn't cutting it anymore. What is the best Linksys router to get. the LINKSYS WRT54GL IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g Wireless-G Broadband Router - Retail got great revies on newegg. I know the WRT54's are good but I don't know which exact model is the best. |

| Has Absolutely no life | i just picked one up from ebay, heres the wikipedia article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WRT54G the WRT54GS V3 is probably the best (most ram/flash), but i couldn't find one so i had to get the v4 |

| Member | Some of the new "n" routers are very good, I like Netgear lately. Whatever you do DO NOT get a WRT54G V5 |

| Tweak Minion | Well whatever router I get will be brand new. According to the Wiki article the WRT54GL looks the best becasue of the linux support or w/e but there is almost no 3rd party firmware...it's all for the WRT54G. |

| Rogue One | AFAIK OpenWRT supports that model, and is one of the better firmware versions anyway. Edit: it actually sounds like any 3rd party WRT54G firmware will work...the Wiki page says the WRT54GL is "Essentially the same as the WRT54G version 4.0, but with a new model number". |

| Tweak Minion | Does the new firmware help that much? Or is it really only for special purposes? Also which is better OpenWRT or DD-WRT? |

I haven't tried DD-WRT so I can't say how it compares. I think it does have a more extensive web interface than OpenWRT (there is an optional one, but it's fairly limited at the moment). I tend to do everything through SSH so that doesn't bother me. | |

| Hi, I'm the mayor. | I hate DLink. Hate hate hate. WRT54Gs are generally reliable except the V5s had a lot of issues. Is that still the latest revision? I like Netgear stuff, too, especially the Rangemax series. If you can find them, Buffalos are pretty good, too. |

| Tweak Minion | V5 is still the latest. The good Buffalo's and Netgears are so expensive. Why did linksys have to shit itself up. I blame cisco they wreck everything haha. Although I assume most of the reviews are with the Linksys firmware. Would a 3rd party firmware help with thte problems? Most of the reviews were saying that it can't handle high throughput and it would crash while using P2P. Is that a hardware issue....or can it be fixed with 3rd party firmware? |
