| Junior Member | Hi there. I've had a Leadtek GeForce 6600GT for a while now, and have been using the same drivers for a long time because last time I tried to update them scary things happened and it turned me off the prospect. I think, though, it's about time I update them. The problem is the card uses both NVIDIA drivers and Leadtek drivers. I don't know the process for updating the drivers... do I need to update both of them? If so, do I do the NVIDIA driver first or the Leadtek driver first? Do I have to uninstall the NVIDIA drivers before installing the new ones? If so, how do I do that? I'd really appreciate it if someone could talk me through the process step by step. |

| Hi, I'm the mayor. | The Leadtek drivers are based off the NVIDIA drivers and may include some extra software (that may also be based off the NVIDIA applications). However, the software probably isn't necessary so you're better off installing the NVIDIA drivers only and using its applications instead. That way you get the newest drivers. In the last ten years, driver updates from graphic manufacturers have improved. You shouldn't need to uninstall the old drivers. When you install the new drivers, it will simply load all the new files at startup and just deactivate the old ones. They'll be stored on your PC still, but the extra files will probably only take a few MB. Simply install the NVIDIA drivers and be done with it. |

| Paw? | Welcome, first off... But whoa, whoa, whoa, you should not have to install BOTH drivers. That could cause weirdness. I have a Leadtek card myself, a px7800gtx, and I use the Nvidia drivers from their main site. http://www.nvidia.com I'm pretty sure Leadtek provides thier own 'validated' drivers, which are essentially straight from nvidia anyway. Download DriverCleaner - http://www.drivercleaner.net/ and try uninstalling the display drivers from add/remove programs (both, if it shows as 2), restart, run the driver cleaner, restart again, and install the nvidia drivers. Latest version is 91.31 Hope this helps. |

| Junior Member | Thanks for the replies. I don't know if I've got both drivers installed, I just assume so because in my taskbar I have a leadtek and a nvidia settings button. Should this not be the case? I'm worried now. I checked in "add/remove programs" and it says "nvidia drivers" are installed, but nothing about "leadtek drivers", so it could be either. Also I use the leadtek applications (such as the temperature monitor, and I'm interested in the overclocking/speed runner options, as I just improved my cooling situation). Does that mean that if I install the NVIDIA drivers I'll lose that functionality? Argh, this is confusing. |

| Paw? | Can't remember off the top of my head if the new 91.xx series comes with overclock settings...IT MAY. I do know that it has temperature monitoring. Your best bet is to uninstall those drivers in add/remove and run drivercleaner. Restart and do a fresh install of the latest from nvidia.com, like i mentioned earlier. |

| Tweak Minion | It is only possible for one driver to be loaded for a device at any time. If the last driver setup you ran was from nVidia then that is the driver that is loaded. Like Dan said, it doesn't really matter that the other one is still on your system. If the Leadtek one didn't uninstall properly don't worry about it. |

| Junior Member | I've had a chance to try out the new drivers, and wow the difference is amazing! I thought the graphics were good before, and that there'd be a slight improvement if anything. How wrong I was. Thanks for the help, everyone. |

| outside the box! | I've got a leadtech 6800GT and I never, repeat never use their drivers. I go to:http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp tp get mine. Leadtech is alright, but their software isn't all that good. The first thing I had to do was get rid of that friggin huge assed cooler they put on that card, the thing was massive 3 and weighed a ton, putting a strong downward force on my AGP slot and mobo. It didn't work for shit either. |
![]() Say goodbye to our beloved planet. Because there is alot more money to be made in emitting greenhouse gasses, than curtailing emissions. Get out of the box, then recycle it. | |
