My buddy had to re-install windows, and when he went to format his drive, the windows install only showed his external drive (backup drive) and he partitioned it. It was one solid partition beforehand, and is only one partition now. Unformated currently.

He lost all of his work contact e-mails, work websites, his own personal website backup and everything else.

We're going to attempt to use PCI File Recovery, but I need solutions incase that doesn't work.

A friend used Winhex with good results.

WinHex: Computer Forensics & Data Recovery Software, Hex Editor & Disk Editor

Also be sure to cock-slap your friend for not backing up his shit.

Yeah, I told him that he needs to make monthly DVD backups of all of his most important data. The problem today is that his external *IS* his backup drive, he just forgot to unplug it.

I'll let him know about WinHex.

Hi Phant0m51,

If you friend has just re-partitioned the drive and not installed Windows, then there are good chances that the data can be recovered. Try NTFS Data Recovery Software. You can use the demo version to see whether the software is able to recover your files or not, if you can see the data you are looking for then you can go for the full version. Do not save any data on the same drive from which you want to recovering data.

Whatever the software, though, a potent point to remember is that when you download the program it is best saved on a disk other than the one you hope to recover data from or you could be permanently erasing otherwise recoverable data.

He broke down and purchased BitMart Recovery 2000. The demo found all of his files, so he just paid for the pro version to make sure he got everything.
