so basically my radeon x800 pro 256 mb just crapped out on me. would it be possible for me to switch it out with an identical radeon x800 pro without having to reinstall anything?

Yep. In fact you can swap ANY other video card without having to change anything. Just install the card, boot into Safe Mode, remove any existing display drivers, reboot, install the new drivers, and voila! Hell, you probably can boot directly into Windows to install the existing drivers now that I think about it.

Best off to uninstall the old drivers, reboot with the new video card, install the new drivers, and away you go.

However, if it's another ATI based card, then don't worry about that. Nice thing about Catalyst drivers is that it works across all cards.

If both cards are ATI based and they dont have any special hardware like the all-in-wonder editions, then you should have no problem just powering down the system, swap the cards, and power back up. Windows should automagically detect the card and install the drivers for you.

awesome.....thx guys......i went ahead and ordered a x850xt (only about 100 bucks on ebay) but now my vid card seems to be fine.....i left my comp off for the night and when i turned it on this morning everything was fine....i figure ill still replace the card though just in case
