| Lord Of Porn | Slashdot | Cheap New GeForce 8800 GT Challenges $400 Cards Its the new G92 core that runs cooler and uses less power then the previous one G80 core and this 8800GT is as good if not better then the 8800GTS out right now. But nvidia is re-releasing the 8800gts with this new core. The 8800GT is priced from 200-250 or so but looking on newegg the initial prices are around $270 but that is still a great price. This card also supports pci-express 2.0 which has twice the bandwidth of pci express 1.0 but the only chipset that supports this new bus is the intel X38. | |

| Globe Trekker | Looks good. Imagine what the high-end is going to look like? I'll wait a generation or two anyway, since I already have an 8800. | |

| Too old to be this dumb! | The 8800 GT performs almost as well (within 5 fps) as the high-end 8800 GTX in most games, despite having half the memory bandwidth. That is pretty impressive. In addition to the die shrink, they've also improved the memory management, and doubled the number of texture address units from four to eight, so that it can address 8 textures as well as doing 8 texture filtering ops per cycle per stream, instead of the older cards 4/8 per cycle/stream. "As a result of this addition, the GeForce 8800 GT can address 56 textures and perform 56 texture filtering ops/clock (versus 32 and 64 respectively in the 8800 GTX and 24 and 48 in the 8800 GTS)."-FiringSquad It can also process 112 streams compared to the GTS' 96 streams, and has one more ROP unit than the GTS chip. In addition to this, they've integrated the display controller onto the chip, instead of using a separate chip as the previous cards did. HDMI support is built in, but it's up to the card manufacturers to implement it or not. | |
