| | Mouse problems in Windows 2000 Pro. | permalink #1 |
| Junior Member | I have a problem with my mouse in Windows 2000 Professional. The mouse works fine in normal windows mode but if I boot to safe mode I get no pointer at all. My windows 2000 Pro is an upgrade from Windows 98SE if that makes any difference. For some reason it is not loading the mouse driver in safe mode. I booted to safe mode and used the keyboard to get to the mouse applet in control panel looked under the hardware tab and there were no devices listed. Any advice as to how to correct this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time and advice. Bryan McConnell | |

| Junior Member | Nope, I forgot to metion it is the old ps2 mouse. I did have a wireless usb mouse one time but it eat batteries so I give it up. Not sure if the same problem still existed when I was using that mouse or not. I don't ever remember booting into safe mode when I was using the wireless mouse. | |

| Junior Member | ivwshane, when I upgraded to windows 2000 I wanted to do as clean an install as possible so what I did was to completely erased the HD and did a clean install of windows 98SE, as soon as it booted up I didn't let it install any drivers I went straight to an upgrade to windows 2000 Professional. When windows 2000 booted up for the first time the mouse worked and it never ask me to load any drivers for it. I did try today to go back and install the Microsoft Intellimouse drivers but now it won't let me, it says it can't find windows 95, 98, or NT or any service packs. I did some research and found out that if you want to upgrade your OS with this mouse you have to have the mouse drivers loaded in the old OS and then upgrade to the new OS and re-install the mouse drivers again. But since I did not install them the first time it won't let me install them now. So what I did was drug out the ole' logitech cordless optical mouse and reinstalled it and "TA DA" I now have a mouse in safe mode............I really apprecaite everyone trying to help me anyway. Sometimes some of the simplest stuff can drive you nuts!!!! | |
