| | Master hard drive is dying on me! | permalink #1 |
| Tweak Minion | Ok so I have an ancient 40gig Quantum Fireball Pro AS40.0 and the last drive made for it was in 1999. Recently, I've noticed with newer PC games that it's slowing down. With EQ2 and WoW I hear the disk stop spinning and it will click on and off for a few minutes before it just blue screens and shuts down. Now, I run Win2k and have another HDD which is a Samsung SP1213C SCSI SATA 120gig and it's the slave. What do I need to do to basically just get rid of the 40gig copying some folders onto dvd's and make the Samsung 120gig the only hard drive? Do I need to format the disk before I install Win2k? I'm trying to keep my files on the 120gig if possible. | |

| Tweak Minion | I would have made the samsung primary when you got it rather than keeping an old goat running as primary. but I would back everythign personally as well, keeps things cleaner though youd ont have to. | |

| Tweak Minion | Ok so I ended up using XCOPY to transfer all of my files over to the 120gig. Now that I have switched out the old hard drive and replaced it with only the 120, I am not getting recognition of its existance. I have the power cable and the SATA cable in and connected to my motherboard and nothign works. I called up Samsung to try and see if I needed to place the little pin to set it to Master or CS or whatever but they said I didn't even need one. I've tried to look up the problem online but I just can't seem to get any real help. I'm thinking my motherboard has some special thing I need to do before it will work. I'm running the Abit KV8-Max3 and the HDD is a Samsung SP1213C if that helps. I want to try a new power cord to the SATA drive but I don't have another SATA power cable in my box. I probably have one back with the retail mobo box but I'm not sure if that would really help. All of my BIOS settings are in agreeance with SATA being used, I hope. Can anyone help? | |

| I Am The Black Wizards | Toss it in the freezer for 20 minutes, pop it back in the computer and grab anything you can off of it onto another HDD ASAP. | |
