I have so many problems I don't know where to begin. OK First off, I own a Twinhead A3000 Laptop, and I bumped it off a table. Now whenever I try to boot it up , all that happens is that the fan kicks on, CD Rom tries to read, then the sleap mode light blinks. The system does not boot up. I have contacted the manufactorer and I have gotten no reply. Does anyone know what is wrong? Would I be able to repair it? Second, I took the fan and heat sink off of both of my computers for cleaning. After reassembly, the fans run at full RPM most of the time. The heat sink is securely in place. Am I doing something wrong? Third, my computer will not load the driver for my CD Rom, even though I have reinstalled the driver like 4 times. I contacted HP and they couldn't help me out. I thought that it was a bad cd rom so i bought a new one. I got the same problem. My computer is a HP Pavilion a316n. Fourth, I need tips on overclocking my video card. I do not know where to start. If anyone could help me out I would greatly appreaciate it.

Laptop problem: Not really sure. Sounds like the hard drive might be hosed.

Heatsinks: Is that a problem? Did you re-apply thermal paste to the processors?

Cd-Rom: Did you try a new cable? Is the BIOS detecting the drive? Maybe your ide controller is broke.

Overclocking: What kind of video card do you have?

My bet is that something was jarred loose; a cable or memory-stick or heatsink. That's if you're lucky, and the mechanical stuff isn't broken or the motherboard cracked...

The hard drive has always been blank. It has never given me problems before.
I did not reapply thermal paste. Where could I get some?
I did not try a new cable. I will do that and get back with you.
I have an Intel(R) 82845 G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controler.

Erm riiiiiight, ok, I see..... Well is the laptops BIOS actually seeing the HDD?, by that can you see it by using autodetect in the bios, or can you see it when your laptop Posts?

You NEED to re-apply some, did you not wonder why there was gunk on there when you wiped it off?, you can find it in most computer shops, just ask for some thermal paste (a good brand is arctic silver), just make sure you run a google search on how best to apply it first, else you could make more problems for yourself!!!

As per the Tremblay and point one above - Does your Bios actually see your CD-ROM drive?, you dont need to install any software for it to work, it either will or it wont, if it doesnt then something is broken

You dont actually have a dedicated video card! You''d do so much better by actually buying one.

EDIT: Hmm, your screwed with regards the AGP card, cos your machine doesnt have one!, not sure what offerings Nvidia and ATI have out there for PCI (Note NOT PCI-E) which is based on half decent hardware, but all in know of is the geforce 5500 in PCI.

I bought the Laptop with a reformatted hard drive. I don't think there is anything wrong with the BIOS. My CD Rom never had problems until I removed it to inspect the jumper settings and then I reinstalled it. Tremblay, I put on a new cable and it did NOT Fix the problem. Thank you for the advise.

hook the power cable back up? Force the ide cable on the wrong way?
With HP computers, you're screwed. You basically get what they give you and are not encuraged to upgrade....they'd rather sell you a better model than sell you something you can upgrade yourself. This is mostly true with all proprietary computers. PCI motherboards are dinosaurs, you're 2-3 generations behind the times....sorry.

Sorry, I shouldn't be sarcastic, I'm new here as well and relatively new to PC building. You've got to do you're research first. Use the search engines and read! I've got questions I haven't posted here yet because I don't have enough backround yet to even word the question properly. google things like "PC building, how to" or PC repair"and read. bookmark or add to favorites for future referece. If you can't find what you looking for or don't understand what you do find, then ask. Also if you come across any other sarcasctic jerks like me ignore them/ me remember, use google, don't speed read, find aword, phrase or abbreviatoin you don't understasd? google. sorry again, I lost it when I read you didn't use thermal paste/grease. google! Use grease not paste on your CPU, google!
Try these sites for starters- http://arstechnica.com/guide/building/

I learned alot here http://motherboards.org/.
It's been years since I've been there, but it helped me imensely at first. Nothing, repeat, nothing beats building your own system. Laptops are another matter, you pretty much have to buy 'proprietary' with those.

Thanks wiskas, http://motherboards.org/ I just found some good shit. articlle about pent 530J w/ Asus.
I have the 550j w/ hypertheading on an MSI board. I'm going to see if I can smoke this chip. It rated at 3.4 and Ive gotten 3.8 but lost the onboard sound. I bought a cheap sound card, better vid, 6800, and a 550w sunbeam psu on the way. That could have been written about my pc.
