I was going to help a friend build up a new system for gaming. Had every thing planed out; until i saw Newegg offering the new line of motherboards with x58 chip set, for intel i7 chips. So now i am rethinking the whole build. Should i go with the new board and chip.. or stick with 775 and x48 chip set.

Has anyone here done any research on the new chipset and chip, or have link to where there is a good comparative analysis between x48 and x58 chip set and 775 and 1366 processor. Greatly appreciate it.

I am still looking more info on these things. If i find some thing useful i will post the link here too. So for future ref. any one choose to build new system dont have to look all over and waste time.

After some research found a video. Bad ass set up with ASUS P6T Deluxe LGA 1366 Intel X58 and Intel Core i7 920. OCed to 3.8

This was the initial build:
q9550
ASUS RAMPAGE FORMULA
mushkin 4gb
G.SKILL 2GB
SAPPHIRE 100251SR Radeon HD 4870 X2
CORSAIR 750W
The rest of the parts were pretty conventional.

I haven't been keeping up on things at all. But based on what little reading I've done on the I7 that shit seems impressive. Is Intel trying to destroy AMD outright? Sure seems like it. It's a bloodbath.

The Core I7 / X58 combo looks to kick ass. Memory controller on CPU, HyperTransport like QuickPath Transport (no more FSB), triple channel memory. But like anything new, its pricey.

The price is not too bad. After all the research, we have decided to build the system with new chip and mother board. The price of ddr3 are very cheap, as for board and chip they are about same price as good 775 mother board and chip. Just a heads up, the board is not standard ATX, its bigger then normal mother board so choosing case can be abit tricky.

Video review of the ASUS P6T DeLuxe Mother board. Not bad video review. Same mother board we decided to get.

Some pictures from tigerdirect.

Thats a spiffy looking MB. The only bad side in upgrading right now is USB 3 will be out next year.

I'm trying to evolve.

Everything on USB shares the bandwidth so this allows for more devices with less bottleneck. At least that is my understanding.

I finally had some time to help put a new system together.

Still have to organize cables, Install the blue ray drive, Tv card and the rest of the 12gig rams.

Going to remove one of the drive bay on bottom and put a 120mm or so fan that will blow air directly down keeping the 1GB 4870 nice and cool. Side panel on the tower has 230ish mm fan.

Using 750watt PSU. Tower ArmorPlus(Armor+) VH6000BWS Black Aluminum. Got lucky and found a deal on newegg to get that Full tower for 100$. Monitor is SAMSUNG T240HD

Nahh not going with stock. The problem is the new i7 chips dont have many supported cpu fans available yet, least its not on Newegg. Once i find good fan for i7 chip on newegg, i will replace the fan.

Hate the tower but how's the driver support? I'm assuming he's going to use vista 64 bit?

We built a new core i7 system for a customer at frys today. The heatsink for it was the biggest heatsink i have ever seen in my entire life, it was fucking crazy and over the top. I forgot what the brand/model was but it had "V8" on the top and they kind of/sort of made the top plastic piece look like the top of a v8 engine.

All I see is a black hole, and sooner or later they’re going to suck each one of us into it. But when they come for me, I'm going to take as many of them with me as I can.

When i was doing my research on the new chipset and all. One of the board i looked at was intel board, it was 12x10 but i later realize it was more for server. Thats why i posted that. I read reviews where, people didnt realize it was not standard and some had to modify there mother board tray, that's all.

Tower is great. For any one who dont know much about computer and want to learn, its a good tower. Specialy for 100$ it would have been very unwise of me to not get that tower. Having 10 slot in back sure help. Have alot of extra stuff in the back. Light switches, E sata and USBs. With easy to remove mother board tray, its very easy to do debugging, or adding any new things; for novice. Since i build the system, i wanted to make sure she can work on it too since i am not around to help most of the time.

As for compatibility every thing worked without any prob. B ray install the first time and ran just perfect. GFX drivers install without any problems. I installed the ram two at a time to make sure i dont have much to debug if some thing fails. They all worked perfectly. TV card went in fine and installed without any problems. But the software it came with was buggy, had to get a diff one.

GOW, POP all three and New one, C&C3+expansion, GRAW, Bioshock, Hellgate, Devil May Cry 4, Assassin's Creed and Crysis. All tested and running very well.

Going to install later and try out these game: Supreme Commander, Dead space, Red Alert3, Left4Dead and Sniper Elite (old game)

I would never say any thing good about (WINDOW) vista personally but; its truly built so even zombies can use it. LOL. Hardly have to install driver for any thing. Cell phone, ppc, mp3 player, External storage drives, Flash drive (bootable thumb drives).
