Have a 3 year old HP: upgraded once from 512 to 768M (went from 2x256 modules to 1x512 + 1x256. Trying now to go from 768 to 1.5G or 2G. (adding 1G plus existing 512M or 2x1G)

HP website verifies laptop can accept up to 2Gig.

When trying to upgrade with appropriate mem modules (PC2700 - 333), win xp does not recognize extra memory installed. When removing old memory (256M marked PC-2700), laptop will not boot with 1G module.

Did latest BIOS update; none of the updates refer to memory limit fixes.

Any ideas???

Thanks, Adrian

could be something wrong with the 1gb chip from the sounds of it. also double check the ram you got is compatible with your system. it probably is and its just a bad stick but double check.

i use crucial.com memory finder to make sure i have the right memory sticks for laptops.

Thanks Mr. Ali!!! I went to the Crucial.com site and it shows that the laptop only supports 1G in total (2x512M modules), not 2G as the HP site says.

Nice site and the pricing looks good too,

Thanks,

Adrian
