I own an Acer Aspire 3000 laptop computer and recently i decided to try Free BSD on it but it had given me problems so i decided to reinstall windows XP again.

After I loaded XP back up I tried installing SP2 but it would fail during the fail backup stage saying it can not find various files.

Then i tried to install my graphics drivers but it would cause the system just to lock up with the hd light lit up.

Ive tried formatting and reinstalling XP several times and still get this problem.

Could this be a sign of Hard drive failure?

could be a bum CD causing the XP install to be corrupt.... try a new CD, see if that solves the problem.

I tried using another CD slipstreamed with SP2 and it stopped during the installation saying that C:\windows\system32\somefile (*don't remember the name) is corrupt and Windows XP installation can't continue.

Anyways I'm pretty sure the first CD was good anyways. All the other installations i've done with it have worked fine.
