It's been two years. That means it's time for a new computer build. I just have a few questions.

SLI or Crossfire?

Is 1000watts enough for 2 dvd drives 2 hard drives and a quad processor or should I go 1200watts?

I need a nice roomy case preferably with a motherboard tray. Any suggestions?

All I see is a black hole, and sooner or later they’re going to suck each one of us into it. But when they come for me, I'm going to take as many of them with me as I can.

Neither. Buy the fastest shit available now, and do it again in 12 months. In the long run upgrading your video card more frequently wins out over dual solutions.

Whats your budget? As for sli or cross fire. Unless they really make motherboard that can truly handle 2.0 cards speed, you better of single card like ATI 4870. For power you don't need 1k watt. Unless you looking for bragging rights. 800Wats more then enough. Just need to make sure your Board, Processor and RAM are good with each other and can OC well.

Budget? Like 2500.00 maybe more.

Since SLI & Crossfire both got the big thumbs down. I can get a midsized case. I'll probably end up with this one

SLI 2 8800GT's and that will out perform the new nvidias right now. I have one and am fixing to buy another because they are around 120 bucks on ebay.

Only use sli if you are going high rez and gaming or else its pretty useless.

Power, 800 is more then enough.

The latest ATI card is smoking Nvidia, plus you'd only need to buy one, so my vote is that. I think it's the 4870x2.

EDIT: Holy fuck, $2500 is a hell of a budget. I could build a monster for half that.

Newegg.com - ATI 4870x2

2500$ alot for even a godly PC. I would suggest drop 1k for extreme processor but it be a waste of money since they have 6core and 8 core under works.

Any chip with 6MB or 12MB cache is good. For GFX as MSP mention 4870x2 are good and around mid 500$ range. But the case you choose will not work for these card ,X2 cards are very long. I like armor + series case because they give 10 slots in back. Any case that let you slide Hard drive straight out are good from my point of view.

LOL My old system is most likely getting retired to the living room. I'm still not 100% sure I even want to go through with this yet. My 7950GX2 barely got any use and I'm afraid the same will happen with this

Yeah, the 6 core chips are around the corner if you dont mind waiting a few months.
Extreme processors should not be considered, its retarded. Get the q9450 or something in that line and overclock it

the X48 chipset motherboard does support crossfire at x16 and both slots would run at 2.0 unlike the P45 boards.

So get this:

q9650
4870 or 4870x2
x48 motherboard incase you want to drop another 4870x2

but yeah, thats overkill unless you have a 30" LCD and want to run next years games at 2560x1600

Also, stay away from nvidia right now like the plague.

Seriously Bubbles, you could BUY a fucking Alienware for that kind of money. Bank about a grand of it and you'll still have a monster rig. Then use the money to keep the system upgraded over the next few years.

Don't buy the x2 card.. The performance increase isn't worth 300 more dollars, sorry to say

I'm rockin a HD 4870 right now, this thing TEARSSS through games, it's ridiculous.

Cause $600 of that $2500 will be pissed away on a card thats on par or even worse than some of the $250 ATI offerings.

I'm holding off on the build. Like I said I have not even put my 7950GX2 to good use since I built this computer

No doubt, just upgrade what you have now. A single 4870 would probably rock your socks off. If you need an upgrade at all. I'm running a single 8800GTS in my laptop and have no complaints.

I've decided I may go through with this.

https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/M...spx?ID=9008352

I just need a case and PSU any suggestions? I would like the PSU to be modular

I was thinking about this case
