| Junior Member | *I am chaning the name of my domain and site, so it does not seem like I am spamming... My network domain name at my house using server 2008 is "myDomain.com. I also have a web page "www.myDomain.com" (I do not host this web page on my servers.) When I am on my network, and try to go to www.mydomain.com I get an error saying the web page does not exist. When I am outside of my network, I get to the web page with no errors. I did a test to see if I could ping www.myDomain.com . When I was outside of the network, I was not able to ping. When I am in the network, i am able to ping. I am now thinking it might be an issue with the DNS server resolving an IP address for www.myDomain.com since it is my domain name, but should that matter? Is there a way around this? Thanks. |

| ¡pɹɐpuɐʇs ploƃ | DAMNIT BRANDON, GAMERTAGS CONTAIN ONLY LETTERS, NUMBERS, AND SPACES!!! To answer your point, if you can access your server via it's IP address your router probably lacks a loopback feature that essentially allows you inside of your network to act like you're outside of the network. |

| Senior Member | It does sound like a loopback issue, change your hosts file to show like this: 192.168.1.45 www.mydomain.com 192.168.1.45 mydomain.com Use the format that it shows in your hosts file, this is the easiest fix for this issue. I use to have to do this on my router when I hosted. This will allow you to see your site from your network. An edit, this may be a DNS issue try using a different DNS server. | ¡pɹɐpuɐʇs ploƃ | Unless he just set the server up DNS would have propagated between the DNS servers within 72 hours at the most. |

| Vagina Friendly Mayor | It's a local dns problem. You need to add a new dns zone to add your public domain name if you want to visit inside your local network. Add a new forward lookup zone to your dns server settings and add hosts there for your public-facing IP/WWW address. |

| Junior Member | I looked in the DNS server and I found a Forward Lookup Zone that had my domain name in there "myDomain.com" I paused this Lookup Zone, and then tried to go to www.myDomain.com and it worked, no problems. Now, before I remove/Pause this zone, what exactly does this do. This is the part of DNS that I don't know too much about. Why would there be a record in there already? Does active directory or anything like that use this? Thanks for your help! PS. I fixed my gamer tag. haha |

| Vagina Friendly Mayor | Can you take a screenshot of your dns settings? edit: take a screenshot of both zones so I can see the hosts entered |

| Tweak Minion | Within your domain's DNS settings, add an A record for www.yourdomain.com that points to the external IP address of your sites server. Alternatively, you could rename your internal to domain to xxx.local vs xxx.com to prevent this issue from happening in the future. |
