I want a second adapter for my laptop, to keep in the bag so I don't have to fish the other one out from behind my desk every time I want to go to the coffee shop.

So how afraid should I be of this:

NEW Laptop AC Adapter for Gateway 2522002R 2523519R - eBay (item 250324430010 end time Dec-12-08 07:00:55 PST)

<$20 is what something like this should cost, but I don't want to fry my laptop. What's the level of danger?

i wouldn't worry about it. i've always bought my cables on ebay and never had a problem before. the markup on cables is robbery.

As long as the power specs match I don't see why there would be any danger.

I was just thinking the quality of the internal components. Maybe causing a spike in the DC output, etc. But you'd think it that were common the guy wouldn't have almost 190,000 feedback, 99.5% of it positive.

Lots of laptop ac adapters do not have ground. Most HP ones do tho.

I'm going to order it. The risk is low, the savings are large, and I've got Gateway complete care anyway. If something were to happen I can have it repaired, no need to mention the 3rd party AC...
