| infinite resolution | The crisis continues. So over winter break, I did some more to it, reformatted, reinstalled, stripped down all the hardware, etc. It seemed to be working ok. I get to school, and so far I've had these things happen: BSOD BSOD BSOD Can't detect sound card Word crashed BSOD Firefox crash Firefox crash BSOD BSOD BSOD (I've been writing it all down) Those last BSOD have all been in the last day. and I am pissed. The BSOD have been memory related, driver related, and IRQL errors. So right now I'm pretty lost about what I should try. The CPU and motherboard are NEW since the post office broke my computer, the RAM has tested good with Memtest86, the hard drives show no errors. I'm thinking about trying a new PSU, but I really have no idea if that could be the problem. And it kind of sucks to be buying new things when you don't know if that will solve the problem. On top of it all, I need to use my damn computer for school of course, so spending hours dealing with instability and crashes, rebuilding, troubleshooting and so on all take up a lot of time and get in the way of work. I should have just taken a stun-gun to the whole computer, declared it a total loss and made the fucking post office pay for it. I'm just about to remove some more hardware, but there is not much I can break down. At the moment it only has one stick of RAM, two optical drives and two graphics cards. All I can really do is unplug one drive, remove a graphics card, reinatall and see what happens. Think I should try a new PSU? |

| Keeper of the Timeline | well, mobo may be new, but you could be unlucky again It happened to me twice in a row one time, I was freakin pissed Maybe that you should bring your stuff in a local comp shop, so they can test your components and find the culprit. They can do it easier that you for the simple reason that they have lots of spare parts to try I did that on my last mobo hell, and it cost me only 30$ for the diag.. so I'm sure that a few dollars will be better than going through this hell over and over. Then, when you know exactly what's not working, you can buy the parts and build it yourself |

| You may just want to invest in a laptop for your school, and leave the desktop system on your desktop at home. Some computers just don't travel well, with cables loosened and cards shifted in their slots and HSF units jarred out of perfect contact with component surfaces and motherboards shifted against the brackets making unwanted electrical contacts... |

| infinite resolution | If I buy one it probably won't be a cheapie, I believe in buying something decent. I just priced an Inspiron 6000 with what I'd want, and got up to $1,197. But that is not any special deal. I've seen $400 off sales on some models before. |

| infinite resolution | Reading the PC Mag service and reliability 06, and the price, I'm convinced I'll get a Dell if I get a laptop. And if I do, it won't be some $500 POS, I believe in buying quality and something that will last, I'm not getting a Celron with 256MB RAM I just reformatted and reinstalled, I'll see what happens. |

| Cheap Bastard | Good luck with Dell's technical support if you ever need it. I've heard countless times it has gone down the crapper. You'll probably end up talking with Kamal over the phone.... |

| "Hello! I am Rajmamurti Alehandro! How may I be of helping you today?" Still, if you're not getting a Thinkpad, Dell is probably the best option for you. |
