The Windows XP you're using....is it pre-SP1?

I had the same problem with my 200GB drive. Any copy of XP that's before SP1 will not recognize the drive for it's full amount when you format it.

You have to install using a SP1a or SP2 XP CD.

Control Pannel - administrative tools - Computer Management - Storage-disk Management on the new drive does it have any black (unformatted spots).

Control Pannel -System - Hardware - Device Manager - List all the disk drives that are there.

you dont need to use PM to get it to work

who's the manufactuarer of your harddrive? I know for Maxtor you need to get a special registry hack that enables 48bit sideband addresing needed for large drives (its on their website - its called large drive enabler)

Just go and download Seagate DiscWizard. It'll will make sure everything is setup properly from the get go.

Holy shit man, you just put the same fucking problem in THREE (count 'em, three) different threads. Grow a brain, read the rules, and come back in a few.
