Great work man.

Thanks guys, it was a lot of fun, too! I have another seat at home and another wheel, so the next time I find an old exercise bike you can bet your ass I'm building a second one.

Thanks for the kudos. I thought you were getting annoyed as it cut into work time. Toward the end, a lot of customers were digging the pile of racing simulator as I bolted it together.

And yes, you should come over!

Hmm, I've got a tripod and camera here. I'll try to make time for that today.

I'm going to add cup-holders. I just wanted to bring it home to play with it for now though.

For MSP:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQJMj7j54nQ

(open it in Youtube and click the High Quality link at the bottom right of the video for the best playback)

The quality sucks for a number of reasons...
I shot it during the day so the room was saturated by light. The screen's 120" I think, but it doesn't show up so well on video, especially during the day.

I edited it with Avid Media Composer, but the file was 4.6 GB, so I compressed it with Windows Movie Maker when I got home tonight. I can try to make a better video later.

i really like the gearshift next to the seat, looks (and probably feels) more realistic.

That is completely and utterly bad-ass. I would think you could make some money selling those.

EDIT: OK, I'm craving a good racing game now. Any suggestions?

Maybe but there's already a strong presence from Playseats, although it's basically a monopoly. If I had a hookup for cheap (Chinese?) race seats and labor once I created a design, I guess it could be a market.

What consoles do you own? Or PC only? Do you own a racing wheel yet?

They are much more fun with a wheel of some kind of course.

Even the non Force Feedback, cheapo-Logitech wheels are a lot lot of fun IMO. Check Best Buy, should be under $50.

I added a bass shaker over the weekend. I drilled a couple holes into the seat bracket on back and screwed it in with machine screws. It looks like this:

To hook it up, I took my amplified Yamaha subwoofer apart and removed the speaker, then ran the wires that were going to the speaker to the bass shaker. I turned the frequency cut to be higher, so it cuts out at a higher frequency than the sub. I turned the volume up quite a bit then turned it up on my receiver to +5 db. The results are amazing.

I can't really demonstrate it with video because it does not make a lot of sound, but it shakes the hell out of the seat. There's engine rumbling, tire noise, and force feedback from the sound now.The whole living room moves when it's turned up.

I have a second bass shaker here at the shop I'm going to install also, then hook the sub back up so I have my 5.1 working again.
