Your talking a set of cans right? I suggest you go somewhere that you can demo them if you can, a store here has a whole bunch hooked up to the same source at the same time. Really good for seeing if going that one model higher is actually worth it, how loud can they go before they sound shit, to see if you like the open or closed backs, the bass response, etc etc...

not always the best way to test them out for loudness/quality (they're not always powered properly)

Might wanna check out sites like headfi for reviews.

not entirely based on wht other people have liked, but the wall of headphones is also a terrible way to judge they way a set will perform, especially high impedance cans.

i love my AKGs

http://www.headphone.com/guide/by-manufacturer/akg/

try anything there.

i'd recommend the K141S. I have the Ms, but the only thing I can power them with is my 200W stereo amp (granted something smaller would suffice, but I don't have anything the 'right' size.). The sound quality is amazing, and the S should get loud off an iPod, discman, etc. The noise insulation isn't bad either. or if you have the money get the k1000, its supposed to be pretty bdass =p
