Probably a silly question, but my new laptop has a HDMI port. I'm assuming that I can buy a HDMI to DVI cable to connect it to my LCD monitor. True?

Groovy, thanks. I'm connected via VGA right now and it's not cutting the mustard.

Worked like a charm. Shipped to my door for 12 bucks too, can't beat that. I was having a bit of flicker using the VGA out on my laptop and this fixed it.

Always nice when things actually work out like you hoped huh?

Beyond the small flicker problem, this new cable just makes the image POP! Bright and vibrant. What a difference.

The difference between VGA and HDMI/DVI is so huge on my 32", that there's absolutely no comparison.

On my old Dell 17" LCDs I couldn't tell the difference. At that time I had a video card with one VGA and one DVI out, and side-by-side couldn't distinguish one from the other. I sure could on my 22" LCD, holy cow!

The sad thing is that I actually contacted Gateway's tech support about it and they were fucking clueless. A lot of those phone techs aren't worth a shit.

I bought a DVI to HDMI to run to my 32" flat screen TV.

Newegg.com - Link Depot 16 FT HDMI TO DVI Cable Model HDMI-DVI-5 - OEM

Worked out great for simple applications, but I don't think the TV refresh rate could handle games at all. I would be playing WoW and a half hour in, I would start getting different colored lines jetting across the screen. But WoW on a 32" screen was definitely a beaut.

Well, when I would Google "Laptop HDMI out" or similar I didn't get much in the hit department. Not many laptops have an HDMI out at this point, it's pretty new.

I had easily found the cables, I just wasn't sure if it should work as advertised from a PC or laptop to an LCD monitor. Quickly answer that question in a Google search, not so easy. Not to mention, isn't this exactly the sort of question that SHOULD be answered on Tweak?

Is the interconnect on your 32" facing down? You'll get intermittent bad connections with your cable if it is. i'm trying to figure out a way to "clamp" that HDMI interconnect up to the set to force a good/secure connection. next time it happens, wiggle the cable to see if it clears or gets worse. if so....bad interconnection.

I apologize I had to make you retype that because I completely forgot I had made a thread or made a comment on it before and you gave me the same advice. Memory is shot.
