I have no idea what the hell is going on, so my screen would turn black after the windows xp logo, so i reformatted it, and it works fine, and the partition shows up on ubuntu, but when i stuck my other hardrives in, ubuntu cannot read the main partition (even though its on the same hardrive, different partition) and it can read my other hardrives fine, but the windows partition, after the windows xp logo, it turns black again.

do you have auto update turned on, if so, any recent updates? try safe mode uninstall last months updates.

Did you run a chkdsk?

Your hard drive might be failing.

I wonder if it's the power supply.

That's why i was suspecting the OS. Disfuntions such as what you discribed have been attributed to XP/Vista updates. i don't know what they're doing over at microsoft, but they fail alot lately.

I agree. By itself it's fine. With other drives (how many?) it doesn't...it's the motherboard, cables or PSU

I've had similar issues and it was either a weak power supply or a bad hard drive. Any other possibilities I was able to rule out by virus/spyware scans and windows file checker.
