dunno if we have any here that care, but the latest android sdk 0.9 was released yesterday... and tidbits of info about "googles" upcoming phone, (presumably built by HTC), are being leaked out...

cliff notes, get this,

- possible t-mobile app store attraction, which is like the apple app store, but with less restrictions.
- opt into google advertising (must be embedded ads everywhere on the phone, lol) to save on phone cost and bill
- the screen will be bigger than the iphones.. GAH!! ive heard 3"x5", vga or more.
- a fucking TRACKBALL. LMAO.. whadda think about that!
- a possible fast november release
- can only use gmail for push

EDIT: LATEST NEWS, new pics and fcc video of first android phone,

this looks flippin awesome.

Will this phone be available exclusively through T-Mobile? If so, I wonder if it will be hacked so the phone will be compatible with Verizon and others. I hate my Razr.

ive said it before, google is like a 5 year old with a billion dollar budget "i want a video sharing site, i want to do an office suite, i want to do VOIP, i want to go to mars, i want to build a cellphone... ooh wait now i want to go to mars on a robot teletubby!".
somethings google should stay far away from and i think a cell phone is one of them

What makes an iphone killer isn't the features, there are plenty of phones out there that have way more features than the iphone, what makes an iphone killer is a better web browser.

Iphones user interface can be duplicated and I think google is the one to do it but without a killer web browser it still wont compare.

But I'm hoping!

LMAO,

well somebody has to do it.. theres people out there with billions and not doing a damn thing with it.. I like to see companies like google dabbling around like this, theres nothing wrong with it.

shane is right, an iphone killer will have the best browser ever, otherwise its just another cellphone

Saw the report the other day

T-Mobile to launch first Google-powered mobile - Yahoo! News UK

The only thing that will help it to beat the iphone is,hopefully, it wont be so damn expensive

Having fast internet access on a mobile is ok, but, the mobile/cellular network has to support it. We use 3g or hsdpa in UK. Which can be 3.6mbs on a mobile, in reality it is usually 1.8. I have seen adverts for 7mbs in London! The speed is location/commercial viability dependent. The important and larger cities will have the technology and the yocal locals will get it later ("coming soon").

I like HTC phones. I had a compact II for 2 years and loved it. I like phones with big screens (am a wrinkly and the eyes are going). At times there did seem to be a problem with push email and this made me change to a nokia n95 as opposed to a blackberry 8100. Trackerballs on a phone are pants and that I feel will be a major drawback and potential design flaw.

I hope it works for HTC as I think that Apple have had a monopoly on this type of phone for too long and HTC have now stepped up to compete.

If T-mobile have taken this on I would put money on them doing there best to get exclusivity from HTC and as such if you unlock one these phones to take a different network sim it may not give all the functionality you expect. I would expect them to try and overcome the normal "factory reset" that we all know and love

I just look ancient.....in a Jed Clampet sort of way.

Wrong: It needs to be available to all carriers (& possible to buy outright)
+ have MMS & turn by turn GPS navigation out of the box

If they release this outside the US as above, they will then have an iPhone killer.

The Q9 is ugly and suffers the same issues as all windows mobile phones, a horrible UI.
