Ive been thinking about upgrading to an lcd setup either dual monitor or single.

I got 20" of height and 4ft of width on my desk for space to accomodate dual lcd, so whats a good size to buy the lcd's in? 17"? 19"?

Also, i have a radeon 9800 pro. Do i need to upgrade?
I really dont play games anymore either, so help factor that in for me.

Are the dells still good lcds to buy? I remember everyone buying that one popular model fps.

Its getting to where i need more real estate because of the multiple things im having to do at once these days..

Those with dual monitors find it to be actually more useful that you thought?

no need to upgrade the card. if youre going dual, id say you'd only need 17's, but if you can get 19's for a good price, go for it.

i have dualies and theres no way in hell i could go back to 1

for dualies, should I get LCDs?
Because I don't want to spend too much on a good LCD. And, I want to play games, but also be in price range I can spend. So 1 LCD and 1 CRT? or 2 CRTs?

Nothing beats dual LCD's. I used to run dual 17" CRT's for a few years, but last christmas I got dual 17" samsung 740n's and they're amazing. 8ms response times so I can go up to around 120FPS before I would see any ghosting effects. They only cost $199 each, but that was during the hollidays, not sure on the current price.

CRT's have a much larger boarder(bigger gap between screens), but after some time I got used to it, the LCD's boarder is only 1cm compared to about 1" of the CRT's.

But the resolution will be no higher than 17s.

Go for it Torx. And anyone else who is thinking about it. You will not regret it.

I'm pretty sure most manufacture's have a proprietary program that can scan for dead pixel's. Neither of mine have a single dead pixel. If you want to play games, you need 16ms or faster response time. 16ms will let you go up to ~60FPS before ghosting will be a problem.

You 9800pro has a VGA and a DVI output right? You wont be able to run 2x DVI connections, so I'd recommend getting screens with VGA inputs to save cash($40 or so per screen). Your card should have come with a DVI>VGA converter to run dual VGA monitors. The screens come with VGA cables, sometimes they come with a DVI cable also, but dont count on it, depends on the manufacturer.

You know I sort of fell out of step with the latest hardware after living in the woods for a while.

However, the specs on that look good, and Samsung is great (mine are Samsung). I'd like DVI myself, but I'm just picky. The price is amazing though, less than half what I paid for mine a while back.

I'm sure you would be happy with them.

The picture quality would be the same no matter if he got the DVI version or the VGA version of those screens(~$40 difference). In order for it to make a difference, the screen itself must be digital(higher model's), and those cost more $$ than I *think* he's willing to spend.

I don't dig widescreen on computers, but that is a nice screen. I'm used to working with a square, and 2 screens give's me 2 workplaces
