Running Ubuntnu 6.06 x64. I am looking for a good FTP client.

gFTP crashes (disappers without a trace) on me almost anytime I throw it a big queue (500+ folders, 1000+ files). Also, while using it, it disconnects very frequently, leaving me with a half-transferred queue then it has to reconnect. It seems to be worse when I do it while it's relisting the FTP's contents after a transfer.

Igloo has crashed a few times, too, but more often disappears completely when I least expect it.

Can you recommend a replacement? Hopefully something with a built-in remote text editor or at least a cleaner interface than launching a second app. I guess I was spoiled by CuteFTP Pro in Windows.

I'm Tweak3D's self-appointed mayor.

It's been too long since I've even used an FTP client. I tend to use the browser for all my limited FTP needs. That said, you should be able to see all Ubuntu's FTP offerings through Synaptic, with a keyword search. At least, that's how Adept works on my Kubuntu system. Are you using the GTK or the GLib (console) version of gFTP? Also, have to tried starting the offending apps from a console session? I find that dissappearing/non-appearing apps tend to leave an error trail in the console that graphical startups don't show.

Also, you can install alien so you can convert RPM files into something apt can use in it's database...

I've never had gFTP crash on me, but then again, the biggest transfers I do are updating XBMC over a local network. As Goofus posted, open it in a console, then when it crashes post the errors. Sometimes you get lucky and it tells you exactly what the problem is and how to fix it.

Ah, thanks, I'll try that. gFTP only crashes when I run a giant queue through it. The last couple days it has been better, though. I just installed 30 updates so that probably helped.

Here ya go:
dan@desktop:~/Desktop/IglooFTP-PRO-1.2.5-linux$ gftp
Segmentation fault
dan@desktop:~/Desktop/IglooFTP-PRO-1.2.5-linux$

It worked fine until I tried to delete 5 folders, that each contain about 300 more folders and a few thousand files.
It stops counting the folders around 600 (halts) then crashes back to the console.

I found a few links saying it's a common problem, especially with 64-bit. I'm going to try another FTP client or recompile gftp. Thanks.
