| | Gateway 22" LCD update - what now? | permalink #1 |
| Globe Trekker | Well, the replacement LCD arrived and it too has a stuck pixel. So I'm torn what to do now. It's towards the right side of the screen and very dim, so much so that you can't see it unless the screen is completely black. It's not even visible in dark gray or other colored images, only black. Do I tolerate it, ask for another replacement, or ask for a refund and buy the Dell 24"? The Dell 24" would be a full $250 more so I'm really torn... Last edited by MSP : 09-22-2007 at 08:26 PM. | |

| Vagabond | Two in a row with stuck pixels... Drop it like its hot. I would get a refund and shop around for something else. | |

| Banned | Did you have to pay anything out of pocket on shipping or restocking fees to get the replacement? If not, I would try another replacement. | |

| Tweak Minion | You'd think they would test for that before sending a replacenent, they know you will. Does this monitor have all the connections and features you were after to begin with? If it's their dime I send the bitch back again. | |

| Globe Trekker | Yep - VGA, DVI, Component, S-Video. And it does Picture In Picture, which is unique in a 22" screen. In fact only the >24" Dells will do PIP. I love it with the exception of this damn pixel. Sub-pixel actually. It's only 1/3 of the pixel that's failing. Last edited by MSP : 09-11-2007 at 04:07 PM. | |

| Banned | I say keep returning them until you get a good one. Especially if they send a new screen before you have to return the old one. | |

| Globe Trekker | OK, thanks for the advice. Another replacement is on the way - no questions asked once again. The defects in the screens are a drag, but you have to love their tech support thus far. | |

| Gramps | 3 defective pixels are the industry standard (grade B). Higher percentage with cheap lcd panels are the standard for C grade AKA: acer, niko, etc. most of the panels that you find "on sale" are grade B or C. | |

| Gramps | Industry standard doesn't mean there will be, just that it's the minimum quality alowed out the factory. Alot of people don't realize that most sets have a bad pixel or two. We, as geeky types tend to notice, but most wouldn't. | |

| Globe Trekker | Well, fingers crossed for this last one. I've done quite a bit of reading and have found that dead pixels are pretty common across the board. Dell, Samsung, even Apple! The stuck sub-pixel on my current display I couldn't even see unless I went looking for it. But I'm so damn OC, I really can't control it... | |

| Globe Trekker | I'm glad that I'm pursuing it. I've been doing some video editing and gaming today and the pixel was VERY noticeable to me. That dot would drive me mad... | |

| Globe Trekker | Well, screen #3 arrived today and looks great. They must have got tired of me calling and cherry picked this one. I won't breathe a sigh of relief until it's burnt in a little without any defects, but so far so good. They sure got it here very quickly, which should score them some points. | |

| Banned | Would you buy this screen again? I'm really looking for something to replace my 21", 8 year old, $80 walmart grab TV that only accepts COAX input. I want to get rid of my converter boxes. I have my Multimedia server, Wii, and my DVD player connected to it with an array of video converters. I would like a 24" or 30" Dell, but they simply cost too much. | |
