I guess I can google a list, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good free dialup service. My friend can't afford internet ATM, and I need to get him a simple internet connection for a low-end HTPC I'm throwing together for him so it can download program guide data.

Can anyone recommend one?

Juno.com Juno Internet Service Provider of Free and High Speed Dial Up Internet Access ISP

There's a lot of free dialup, but Juno is still a name I recognize, so I'd say it's the safest for him to try using.

Free dial-up? Why would a company offer such a thing?

Usually the free dialup providers have their own dialup software with a special adbar that appears at the top of the screen. They make their money through ad revenue.

I'll look into them and see if they will work with what I'm trying to do.

haha ya i remember all those free dial-ups that would put the ads on the screen. my parents had AOL for as long as I could remember and I refused to use them so I just used free netzero or free bluelight.

my parents still use netzero - they only give you 10 hours a month but its all they need for emailing.

NetZero- Free Dial Up Internet Service - High Speed ISP - Net Zero Internet Provider - Netzero.com
