Jist: Two SATA drives 160GB EXT2/Ubuntu 8.10 250GB NTFS/Data I want to partition the NTFS with a 60GB~ partition for a streamlined install of Windows XP strictly for games. Right now my 250GB is mounted and is read-only so I'll need to change that and then I'll need to add a partition/resize the old one. Obviously Partition Magic is great for this but there must be a Linux alternative that makes this simple correct? The second step is to install Windows/dual boot. How do I prevent Windows from dominating my MBR and how do I set up the GRUB properly to work? I'm researching this right now but I'd also like input from you guys. |

Yeah I was tooling around with it before but everything is greyed out. I enabled read/write access on the mounted 250GB NTFS drive and I'm not sure why it's stuck like that still. |

Not sure if this will be much help, you can try diff version and see if that works. SourceForge.net: Files |

I figured it out, you have to unmount the drive first to make it work properly. Now that that's done I guess I just install windows and hope I can figure out how to edit GRUB ![]() |

Boot your liveCD and look for a guide to reinstall grub, it's fairly simple but I dont recall exactly how to do it. |

I got it all set up now the only problem I have is getting it to actually load Windows. Almost there... So as far as I can tell (and I'm dumb): hd0 - 250GB SATA partitioned with 60GB for Windows and the rest for Data hd1 - 160GB for Ubuntu title Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition map (hd0) (hd1) map (hd1) (hd0) root (hd0,1) chainloader +1 This is what I have put into menu.lst for grub but it basically gives me a data error and can't load anything. Not sure how to fix this just yet. Going to work but if you have any advice, thanks in advance Last edited by Dustin; 11-16-2008 at 05:10 PM.. |
