...and while you're on hold the problem seemingly resolves itself? I've got a really reliable ISP, so I've only had to call them 2-3 times in the last 10 years. But every time I call them the problem resolves a few minutes after I enter my phone number, but before I speak to a technician. Honestly, this current outage went on for about 12 hours because I didn't have time to fool with it. But was fixed within minutes of dialing my number into their system... ![]() |

I've had that happen with Time Warner's service before. AT&T/SBC/Whateveritisnow in Cleveland this week was a completely different story. It took me two hours to explain to someone that I needed to change MX records. |

This happens to me every time I call comcast. Whether it's slow downloads or an outage, if I call them I'll get on with their tech support, and before I can finish explaining the problem, voila it's gone! |

I had something similar happen once. I called Comcrap, talked to a CSR who said he was sorry he was unable to help me, and then the problem disappeared right after I ended the call.... ??? |

Yeah, I've been using the Cincinnati Bell DSL service (Zoomtown) and before that I used their dial-up (Fuse). Probably more like 12 years now that I think about it. |

ive definately had this happen with time warner/comcast same issues, problem fixed before talking to someone, and problem fixed AFTER talking to someone that had no clue on what the problem was. It was always, ALWAYS either "local outage, your modem needs replacing, cable lines investigating, yada yada". Very suspect. |

I just got off the phone with them again. The wild thing was that right after I got off the phone with them the service kinda went to hell again. I just uploaded about 35GB of MP3s to my web server, and I just wonder if they're pushing the "make service shitty for that guy" button to dissuade me somehow from using that much bandwidth. I held this guy on the line while I tested for a while, and whatever he did seemed to do the trick. Ping times under light load are single digits, and dropped packets are down to 1-2% when under heavy load. In my way of thinking ANY dropped packets should be unacceptable. |

this is exactly what happened with clearwire when I had them. it worked great for the 30 day trial period and then at midnight at the 30th night (when i was locked into contract) it went to crap. Literally EVERY SINGLE TIME I called tech support, it would work immediately and then go back to crap after I got off the line. |

Well, 24 hours on and the fix appears to be holding. No dropped packets during normal browsing. I still see 0-1% drops when uploading to my FTP server, which shouldn't be happening and pisses me off. |
