Good. Vista seemed to be as much an upgrade as Windows Me.

Ugh.

I still don't get all the vitriol surrounding Windows Vista. I like it, it runs fine on my hardware, and it is a great media center.

+1 for Vista love.

i mean, hell what more can they change in the windows environment besides the typical bottom start bar and windows?

they really need to dig deep into their craniums to figure a new technological breakthrough in UI design and usability

apple has their stupid little dock bar at the bottom, ubuntu and other distros have their desktop switching and eye candy.. windows has... aero.
something that i dont think anyone uses.

I'm still afraid to try it, I'm on my new computer now ( thread coming when I have the time) and I'm still running XP :P

-1 for Vista love.

Truth be told I'll likely give it a try soon, I know XP well so I wanted to boot on it and sort out any issues hardware issues like this.

I've only used it passingly, on friend's laptops and on store display models. It looks great, and I'm chomping at the bits to get it! But I want to boot it on two PCs at home, and I refuse to buy two seats of Home Premium at $120 a pop. Especially given the gaming benchmarks I've seen. If I want eyecandy I just use my Mac, done! Given all I generally do on my Windows machine these days is game I'm not going to give away frames per second just for the bling.

I was considering waiting for the next release of Windows anyway, and this news reinforces that in my mind.

-1 for vista

back when i was beta testing it it was flashy and it has some eye candy but alot of its features (sidebar espically) are memory hogs i know you can disable sidebar and all that but then whats the point of leaving a perfectly good operating system (xp) and going to basicly the same thing but with a few features that i dont even use. and i know that you can only run DX10 on vista and im a big gamer but these dx10 games like crysis have problems running at the highest quality settings and only get 10-20 fps on the best hardware today

edit: yes i know a run on sentence im a sophmore in highschool and i never did pay attention to grammar i am way too busy with algebra 2, advanced computer programming, honors earth space science and psych class

My computer is too slow for Vista to run as it should (I don't have a good enough graphics card), so I'm still on XP, and it works perfectly for me. Honestly I can't see what going to Vista would help me with.

But damn, another Microsoft OS coming up soon? I don't get it...

Microsoft's model is to refresh OS every two years. vista really threw a wrench in the gears of thier machine. i don't see that much wrong with Vista itself. my bad experiences were as with XP.....driver support. The hardware vendors seemd to resist vista the most. Companies like Creative and HP
seized the opportunity to advance sales of thier top margin products and the clientel for those products (we, the geeks) saw through that crap. As a result, i don't even concider creative and Hp when looking into new hardware.
I viamately dispise BS merchandising scams.

[Pontification Mode] The worst thing about Vista, is that there isn't enough good about Vista to pull folks away from a super-stable and compatible XP. Not even DX10 games are good enough, speed-wise OR graphics-wise, to stop folks from using faster and only marginally less detailed DX9 mode, and developers aren't about to cut themselves off from the huge installed DX9 base, yet.

The one thing Windows 7 needs more than anything else, is to show an improvement in performance, compared to XP. Vista currently loses consistently to XP in this category. People will forgive larger system requirements (as they did with XP), if those requirements pay off with improved performance of the new OS, compared to the last version of OS.
