So I turned on my computer, open firefox and notice I have no more bookmarks. I tried restoring my system to a later date to see if they would come back but they didnt.

So then I come here and search for advise and notice my cookies must still be working because I am already logged in. What the heck happened? Why would all my bookmarks disappear but my cookies be intact?

did you check C:\Documents and Settings\ [user name] \Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
To see if there are any extra profiles. You can double click on the bookmarks.html and see if it is your previous ones. Otherwise unless you have them backed up, your pretty much fucked.

I make myself laugh.

Yeah, the only way that could have lost your favorites was if that file went missing or corrupt. Maybe do a search of the entire "Documents and Settings" directory for the "bookmarks.html" file? I back mine up for exactly this reason.

Open firefox:
-> Bookmarks-> organize bookmarks-> File-> import-> select "from file"-> navigate to

C:\Documents and Settings\ (user name) \Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default\bookmarkback ups

double click the most recently dated bookmark file and they should be restored.

I would also suggest you check out Mozbackup, it will completely back up and restore firefox and Thunderbird (if that is your email client)

did you have a windows update? Same shit happened to someone else on the other site I use

Windows Update Deletes Firefox Bookmarks

All I see is a black hole, and sooner or later they’re going to suck each one of us into it. But when they come for me, I'm going to take as many of them with me as I can.

Talk about a circular cross-posting! This thread links to that thread links to this thread links to...

Is there no longer a "bookmarks.html" in your "X:\Documents and Settings\Profile_Name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\Random_string.default" folder? or the bookmarkbackups subfolder?

I wonder why it happened to some, but not to others. Is this FF3 or FF2? What plugins/extensions are you using?

This makes that Mozbackup utility look much more important.

FF2 and the only utilities I use are download helper and mouse zoom, nothing else.
