| Globe Trekker | I dual booted my daughter's WinXP machine with Ubuntu a while back but could never get her to use it. Well she recently brought home a lousy report card and I took the opportunity to try this experiment - she would be grounded from Windows. She could use her PC as much as she wanted, she just had to use Linux... Well, its a few weeks later and she's using her PC almost exactly as she did before. MP3s, DIVX movies and TV shows, online games, web browsing, etc. In fact I caught her playing around with some photo editing today. It's just been a few weeks and I think I can declare victory. If I could find an alternative to her Olympus M:ROBE MP3 player software I think she could say goodbye to Windows forever! Last edited by MSP; 11-12-2006 at 06:30 PM.. |

| Jolly Bolly Fo-Folly | Well there is a thriving community of M:Robe users that have made alternatives for all other platforms. Not to mention edited the firmwares and other cool things. Someone got doom to play on one. | Globe Trekker | She's learned to burn CDs, organize and edit photos, but that's about all that is new. When I see her pop open a terminal window I think I'll have a heart attack, but I'm sure that's coming. |

| Globe Trekker | I've seen her editing photos a few times now, did a nice B/W filter on a photo of us at the beach for school just today. She's been using OpenOffice too. Bad news thought - that MP3 player I'm getting her doesn't appear to support Linux after all. ![]() |

| Tweak Minion | I believe it should act like a flash drive and you copy and paste? I know iPod won't work unless you layer it. |
