I just recently built a new computer, and have been using it for several months now. Since the beginning however, I haven't been able to watch certain videos, streaming or downloaded. Well, I can watch them, but the picture on them is neon-ish, and I've never seen or heard of anything causing this. Some video formats work well, but for some reason most do this same thing.

Any help with this would be appreciated, and to the brave soul who solves this problem- I give a high five.

Thanks

Brandon

Do you have any codecs installed? Have you noticed a pattern on which video files it does it on? WMV, MPG, AVI (many variations of AVI) etc..

My Windows Media Player is fucked up right now too, haven't invested much energy in fixing it. With Divx and Xvid movies the colors are all shifted. I've removed and reinstalled all of the codecs without any change. So I just switched players for those file types. The player that comes with Divx is fine for my needs...

It still irks me though, so I'll sniff around and see what I can find.

EDIT: I found this, I'll try it when I get home.

This can occur if there are problems with your video driver. Contact the vendor of your video adapter to inquire if a driver update is available.

To work around this issue, Microsoft recommends you take the following steps:

1. In Windows Media Player, click Properties on the File menu.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Click Video Renderer, and then click Properties.
4. Click the DirectDraw tab, and then click the YUV Flipping check box to clear it.
5. Click OK, click OK again, and then click Close.
6. Quit, and then restart Windows Media Player. Test to determine if the issue is resolved by playing a video file. If the issue is not resolved, continue to step 7.
7. In Windows Media Player, click Properties on the File menu.
8. Click the Advanced tab.
9. Click Video Renderer, and then click Properties.
10. Click the DirectDraw tab, and then click each check box that is selected to clear it.
11. Click OK, click OK again, and then click Close.
12. Quit, and then restart Windows Media Player.

I find downloading codec packs helps solve that one.

So far I've seen it only with windows media video files. I forgot to mention that I have tried downloading codecs, both divx and the combined community codec pack, yet both didn't help.

I tried what you found, MSP- but I there is no advanced tab in the properties menu of windows media player that I can find. Have you tried this yourself yet?

I fixed mine, and it was pretty silly. Turns out I had checked the "Use high quality mode" in Tools -> Options -> Performance -> Advanced. The default is "Use overlays" and I had just checked "High quality" on a whim. Works fine now.

Another fix is to download windows media player 10 if you dont have it, I take it you have windows xp default wmp9. But what MSP could also fix it. The videos are encoded I believe using wmp10's encoder, but I could be wrong. Hope y'all fix the problem.
