So which apps are good? I tried the Flash light one but it didn't load

Shazam is amazing... we tested it today and it works perfect. Very impressive.
Yelp is really cool. It's like Yelp anyway, but adds the functionality of the "find my location", so like a GPS it can find anything on Yelp that's near your current location.

I downloaded Pandora, AOL music, and some others but haven't tried them yet.

Have you tried Remote, thats pretty cool, it still has some bugs for me though. Sometimes my songs don't always show up and/or dissappear when I scroll down. I also have bofa, myspace, facebook, google and movie.app and AIM. But even though I'm signed into aim on my phone, I get messages forward to my Phone as an SMS which shouldn't happen....

Isn't that an oxymoron. Best + iPhone? Not possible.

Yeah I got Lightsaber - it's pretty cool / geeky.
Pandora's amazing. It works even with the iphone in my glovebox, over 2G while driving. So I can stream Pandora anywhere now for free. Well maybe not anywhere but most places I drive.

It doesn't work too well in my area, but someone try out Urbanspoon and let me know how it goes. You can randomly pick restaurants based on certain criteria -- probably great when you have a group of indecisive friends.

Aurora Feint looks neat (puzzle game that has competitive MMO statistics).

The best free game I've tried so far was Moonlight Mahjong. It's 3D and really well done.

Oh, myLite is a better flashlight that includes strobe and stuff. Check it out.

Tried a few more yesterday...

Bloomberg is good for financial news.
New York Times is okay for general news.
Scribble is a pretty neat drawing program, but would be much better if you could use an eraser instead of shaking to erase the whole image.
iPint is a neat demonstration of the accelerometer stuff.
iWant is like Yelp but faster. I haven't decided how much I like it yet, but definitely check it out if you live in a city or travel.

The gem of the pack was definitely Cube Runner. This game is awesome for killing a few minutes (or longer) and gives a good demonstration of what the iPhone is capable of for gaming.

Some good games:
PegJump - great classic game with the pyramid/triangle and pegs to jump... best game for killing a few minutes yet.

Labryinth LE - classic maze game where you move around the phone to direct a steel ball through a maze of wooden edges and holes.

Sudoku Free - Guess...

Bumping this to report that Lucasfilm is a bunch of douchenozzles and had Phonesaber pulled. Plus, I'll report in this thread on my favorite apps once Pwnage 2.0.2 hits tomorrow and I have ssh access into my phone again.

This is the first part of Juballharshaw’s mega iPhone app/game review. I’ll post these as I get time to sit and type them out.

Cydia-

First off, this is not found in the app store, but rather installed through the process of jailbreaking via Pwnage or Winpwn. Like with the original iPhone and 1.xxx firmware this absolutely makes the phone. The package list is sparse at the moment because the packages need to rewrapped for the 2.0 firmware but they’re adding new stuff everyday. The ability to customize your background, add the ability to read proprietary format documents and most importantly SSH access are essential in my opinion to make the iPhone more than just a “iPod Phone”.

Now onto apps from the App Store.

AIM- This does exactly what you’d expect it to do, connects to the AIM network. However, unlike Adium/Trillian/Gaim that’s all you can do is connect to the AIM network.

Pros: No ads like the desktop version. Actually works unlike Palringo, it actually works. Free.

Cons: No landscape mode. Doesn’t support other networks (though you can’t expect it to really).

NetNewsWire- An RSS reader similar to the desktop version.

Pros: Free. Syncs with your desktop version via their webserver and a login/pass including download feeds and marking posts already read on the desktop client. Has mark all as read function.

Cons: No landscape mode. Desktop client version sucks.

MobileNews- Free news app from the Associated Press.

Pros: Easy to read. Contains tons of sections that can be easily added and removed from your homescreen.

Cons: None!

Weatherbug: Free weather app for the iPhone.

Pros: More info than Apple’s Weather app. Gives a 3day forecast etc.

Cons: No 5 day, no almanac. Cluttered layout. Weather alerts aren’t well displayed nor are they actively announced. (IE, if I don’t open the app I don’t know about the tornado in my area.) Shares a name/background with a company with a semi-shady desktop app.

Last.fm- Head to last.fm to find out what this app is about.

Pros: Awesome tie-in to the website and integration into the phone. If you’ve used the desktop client, this is a very similar port.

Cons: Random crashes, still kind of buggy.

1Password- Password storage app.

Pros: Works like the desktop app and remembers logins so you don’t have to. VERY secure password/pin that is NOT recoverable.

Cons: Need a license to the Mac only software. Lack of right-click in MobileSafari makes this app a bit less useful than it’s OS X counterpart.

Bookshelf- eBook reader.

Pros: Autoscroll. Access to public domain library.

Cons: Needs a java app on your desktop to transfer books to the phone. App could be prettied up. A bit pricey.

Enigmo- Puzzle game requiring the user to get water and other elements from one spot to another using gutters, drums, sponges, etc.

Pros: Gorgeous graphics. Fun and challenging.

Cons: If you don’t complete a puzzle within a timeframe you don’t get points and some of the puzzles can be pretty challenging. I guess the complaint here is that unless you’ve done the puzzle before, the point system is pointless at best.

Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3d- Think Mario Kart Wii for the iPhone

Pros: Pretty, involved powerups, great soundtrack, lots of levels, Crash.

Cons: Battery hog, I found it drains about 1% of battery per 30 seconds of gameplay which doesn’t sound like a lot but each course is about 2-3 minutes and it all adds up quick.

Texas Hold ‘Em- Poker

Pros: Full motion movies in portrait, quick rendering in landscape.

Cons: Makes you think you can actually play poker well.

Monkey Ball- Google if you’ve never heard of the series.

Pros: Pretty, imaginative gameplay. Lots of levels.

Cons: If you’re even slightly prone to motion/car sickness you might be able to tolerate 2-3 minutes of this game.

South Park Imagination Land- Again, Google is your friend.

Pros: Butters! Entertaining and creative. Forgiving when you fail a level. (No game over, no setbacks)

Cons: Unskippable and annoying tutorial in the beginning. Short.

de Blob- Entertaining game in which you’re a blob charged with bringing color back to a colorless city.

Pros: Unique game idea and design. Fun to play once you figure things out.

Cons: Missions are difficult to a) figure out what to do b) find out resources needed to succeed in said missions and c) actually accomplish. Gameplay is not completely intuitive.

Chopper- Old school side-scrolling helicopter rescue and shoot-em-up fun.

Pros: Fun and unique use of the accelerometer.

Cons: Could use weapon diversity, bombs and machine gun gets old after a while.

Dizzy Bee- You’re a bee, you tilt/turn the phone to get pollen and fruit before the bad guys smash you.

Pros: Another unique game design built around the accelerometer. Kind of cute actually.

Cons: Because you have to turn the phone around to move the character sometimes fine control is not possible.

Motion X Poker- 6 Sided Dice with 9-A on them.

Pros: Uses all aspects of the iPhone, touch, shake, etc.

Cons: Limited gameplay due to restrictions of a 6 sided dice, wish there was an option to add 14 sided die.

Bejeweled- Yes, that Bejeweled.

Pros: It looks and works like the original.

Cons: It’s Bejeweled which was awesome, like, 10 years ago.

Cro-Mag Racing- Another Mario Kart Wii style racer.

Pros: Cheaper than CBNK3D has unique powerups.

Cons: Not as inclusive as Crash Kart and not as polished in my opinion.

iDrink- Have alcohol and mixers and don’t know what to make?

Pros: Way more convenient than a pocketbook of martinis.

Cons: Limited drink selection with no internet database to update from or add to.

So there you have it, the first Juballharshaw iPhone App review. Oh and a bonus, a screenshot of my home screen.

CanonGame - like Gorillas in Q-Basic, good sounds and lots of fun but pretty short game.
PapiJump - bouncing ball using the tilt sensor to keep it on platforms.
Tris - Tetris for iPhone
Brain Tuner - timed quiz for simple math problems. Pretty fun.
reMovem free - I love this game. Find combos of colored orbs and pick the biggest combos for higher scores
Break Classic - Breakout clone. Really good.

The Wikipedia application is amazing. It's basically the same as the web site, but there's no zooming required really: it's just scaled and perfect for iphone. It also doesn't require net access to load until you actually search, so it's really fast. It's just nice having the answer to every question/topic ever, right at your fingertips.

Also, the Myspace application is really good. I hate Myspace, and the application completely replaces the site. You can take photos straight from your phone or camera straight to the Internet. There's no ads/crashes etc.

Hanoi is my latest favorite puzzle game. It's the classic tower of hanoi puzzle in mobile form.

Spore Origins sucks.

Koi Pond is totally worth the 99 cents.

Does anyone know any good places to start learning to code for the iPhone? The SDK info isn't too helpful.

OMG great game. It's "Risk" in your pocket. I'm already tempted to buy the full version because the AI is too easy now. You can play vs. mode too, but hvaen't tried it yet.

This game is incredible! It has that magic feeling from the NES or Atari 2600 days. Cool music, neat art concept, and it's actually pretty fun and challenging. Also a free game.
