| El Chupacabra | Whoosh! Linux sucks for gaming. For most games, you have to wrap a shell around to handle Win32 API calls and DirectX support. The ports are always buggy and lack all of the features built in to the game on Windows. I am both a Windows and Linux user as well, but Linux is the far inferior OS for gaming solely due to the support (or lack thereof) from the game industry. So, we get it demon, you are a Linux evangelist, but your dogma is more likely to drive people away than to attract people to it. |

| With the new chips, the All In Wonder is going to make it's return as well. No more separate TV Tuner card... On another note, Linux is just fine for gaming. It's just that nobody codes for Linux, since most of the market it aims for already uses windows or consoles. With SDL, OpenGL, and OpenAL, Linux could potentially be a gaming powerhouse, if it weren't for them pesky GPL licenses that most developers don't want to be bound up in. | Globe Trekker | Unless things have done a 180 since the last time I ran Linux (last summer) I think it sucks for games. Sure, you can emulate and all that crap, but it's a buggy, crashy mess, and requires all sorts of fiddle fucking to get working. Versus Windows where you simply click Install -> Next -> Next -> Finish -> Play. It was just a hassle. Linux is great at lots of stuff, and has potential as a gaming platform, but it's just not there yet. |

| El Chupacabra | It looks like I am going to get a different card. Apparently my order was processed after the card had sold out. They are offering to sell me this card instead: Newegg.com - VisionTek 900244 Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards I have never owned a VisionTek card. Does anyone have any experience with their support or warranty? |

| King of the Wicker People | Prices are up for the 4870 at some of the canadian online retails (tigerdirect, ncix). Just under $400 for a sing 4870, but for around the same price, I could Crossfire TWO 4850. Decisions, decisions. |

| Globe Trekker | I don't think anyone is arguing that. But why would they bother? It costs money to develop for additional platforms, and Linux doesn't have a large enough install base (especially of gamers) for it to make sense financially. It could be a great gaming platform, but it currently isn't. And frankly I doubt it will be anytime soon. |

| Senior Member | if gaming industry and hardware industry comes out with more linux support then in no time linux will dominate. A lot of people i talk to want windows alternative its just they so use to windows and they dont want to run in compatibility problems. I just hope to see one day windows go out of business in my life time hopefully |

I don't know why so many Linux users get their panties in a bunch over Windows. I am a Linux user and guess what...I have based nearly my entire career on the back of the Windows desktop and I don't plan on changing that any time in the near future. I have a theory; it's an elitist attitude and you wouldn't have anything to demonstrate the size of your ePenis without patronizing Windows users. | |

| Lord Of Porn | So.... are the latest drivers for this card on the CD it ships with? I can't seem to find the latest drivers. ATI and Sapphire don't have any on their website for the 4870. |

| King of the Wicker People | I'm a windows user, and will be for a very long time. I have no need for linux because linux does not run any business that I deal with. |

| Tweak Minion | I must say its quite fun coming across some *insert OS here* zealots once in a while. In all of the delusional elitism, the concept of technology being independent of specific vendors is ignored. |
