Apple Student Discount.

Are they really strict about this in-store and/or online? I don't have proof of being a student, but I really want to get in on their $999 MacBook + Free iPod touch deal for students.

Anyone have any experience with this or know anything?

They'll ask you what college you go to and then route you to the school's "Apple store". From there it should go through as normal.

There's no like, school username and password? And will the school get a record of what I bought? I mean, I do plan on attending the college down the road from me next semester, I just want to get in trouble. lol

There is no check at all online. My cousin has been buying shit online using the student discount for years and he doesn't even go to college

Bumping this for all the other T3kers who might be interested in getting a Macbook. Don't get one for at least a month. Apple is expected to upgrade the product line by the end of the month which means a new model for this price or a discounted previous generation.

Back to school ends the 15th. The iPod event is the 9th but like last year Mac updates are not expected at that event. My guess is that they announce them the 16th or 23rd.

Haha, you sound like my boss. He loves Apple so much he takes time off work to attend all the keynotes. It's sorta sad.

Well, my RSS feeds maybe be 60% Apple or iPhone related but I'm not that obsessed.

Apple's predictable and really all about Jobs' showmanship. They're going to have a fancy unveiling next week and the press will get all excited about it, you'll see it on Drudge, and things will die back down. They do it every year.
