Wondering if it's worth getting anytime soon.

not unless your planning a full mobo, Ram, CPU, and video card "upgrade"

i have a pci-e card laying on my ground right now....as well as mobo, ram, and cpu -- it'll all be going in tomorrow, so ill let you know exactly how worth it is -- its also hard to compare agp and pci-e, because you really cant compare the same card in different formats without having alot of other components being changed out as well.

went 7800GT PCIx....started playing bf2 and i must say game looks friggin amazing and runs as smooth as anything i have ever seen. I even for shits and giggles installed the old quake 1 and got it running at 1600x1200 with no noticible lag what-so-ever and it was awesome
I spent a pretty penny upgrading everything, cpu, ram, mobo, graphics, but it was worth it cause i was jsut running a p4 2.4 on a 9600se before.

I might just buy this motherboard instead of the MSI K8N Neo2-F. Read AnandTech's review. For a value board, it's freakin' cool. I love that slot for M2 CPUs. The only things missing from it are onboard Gbit NIC and IEEE1394a/b ports. But there are three PCI slots and a PCIe x1 slot to add expansion cards....

PCI-e is pretty cool. You just have to find a good graphics card that makes use of it.

For now, though, my X800 Pro AGP along with my P4 3.2Ghz CPU will do me just fine.

One of the main things that kept me from going to a socket 939 board/CPU, was the total lack of AGP support in addition to PCI-e support, so I could change the mobo/CPU now, and get around to changing the gfx card later, so I spent on an AthlonXP 3000+/400fsb CPU and PC 3200 HyperX instead. Had this been out then, I'd have made an entirely different choice...

My specs.:

P3 933MHz
384megs ram (PC133!!!!)
Radeon 9600se

Think I need to upgrade.
The ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 looks like a good bet.

I've been planning my upgrade around my graphics card. I paid $200 for my GeForce 6600GT AGP, and I'd like to keep it for a while. You could say I haven't even used it yet. So I decided to get an Athlon XP 2800+ initially, but then I found a couple of Socket 939 motherboards with an AGP slot and decided to upgrade the motherboard and CPU instead. I settled for an MSI K8N Neo2-F and an Athlon 64 3000+. I'm definitely gonna go for the Asrock now, though. It has everything I need, like SATA II (even if it's not the official kind) and a special slot for upgrading to a Socket M2 CPU.

TheyCallMeBear's

Gamercard

I've got a 7800GTX running on my A8V-E (obviously PCI-E). Runs flawless, to say the least.

A good answer to the main question would be, if you're saving money for a large upgrade such as RAM, CPU, Video, then do so. For just a video card change, I wouldn't recommend it.

"Stupid ass house-nigga!"

Asus P4P800,P4 3.4 LGA, 1 gig corsairXMS and a 9800pro for graphics. I wish I'd have gone PCIe instead, but it'll have tp wait for next system upgrade now. I will say that I'm totally dissatisfied with the ATI graphics and will be going back to Nvidea very soon.

dammit!!! I'm about out of aluminum foil! Yup...."brix shall be shat".
