| | Any reason why I can't connect to another remote desktop? | permalink #1 |
| Dont mess with old school | Ok so here is the deal. I need to remotely access some computers at work. They are behind a dsl NAT enabled modem and then behind a NAT router. I have five machines, each with a static IP, each has been setup to use and allow remote desktop connections all using different ports (ie 3391, 3392, 3393, etc). On the DSL modem, all ports have been forwarded to the wan IP of the router and have been forwarded individually, ie forward all port 3391 requests to the WAN IP of NAT router, from there the router forwards the ports to their respective IP's. So a remote desktop logon looks like this: internetIPofRemotePC:339x So here is the problem, I can only connect remotely to one computer (it's the first one), when trying to connect to the other machines I get an unable to connect error. All settings are the same on each computer. If it matters, the dsl modem is a netopia 3500 and the router is a linksyswrt51ag (it's garbage). I can however connect to each computer locally when connected to the lan. So that tells me that remote desktop is working properly but either the router or the modem is configured incorrectly. Any ideas? | |

| Junior Member | On the other non working ports can you telnet into them from the outside aka telnet 1.2.3.4 portnumber ? Check your firewall logs as well as XP's firewall logs to make sure the firewall on the pc is not denying connections from the outside | |

| Vagina Friendly Mayor | Make sure those computers allow you to control them - right click on mycomputer and go to remote and check the box to allow remote control. The only other thing I can think of is those 5 computers are part of a domain and group policy is set to block the connections on 4 of them if they're part of the same OU. | |
| Perfect. Fuck. Ok stay here and get... butt fucked by 12 Neanderthals. Bitch | ||

| It's a series of tubes. | Check the router logs, and if possible the modem logs. Also you might want to check if there is an updated firmware available for you router. Also you might consider trying 3rd party firmware. I'm running Svaesoft's firmware and haven't had any problems with port forwarding. | |

| Dont mess with old school | There are no updates for the router (this is the wrt51 not the wrt54), linksys has basically discountinued it because it sucked so hard. All computers are part of a workgroup and not a domain and all have remote desktop allowed (which is why I can connect to them from other computers on the lan). All firewalls are turned off. | |

| Dont mess with old school | I'm not using that port. I'm using different ports for each system so that I can connect to them all (at different times). http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/20...0828021469.htm | |

| Tweak Minion | Do they all have different external IP's, or are they all on the same external IP, and then 5 different local ips? Try turning 4 of the pc's off (including the one that works), and see if you can connect to one that isn't working. If so, i dont know ... Youd think the different ports would handle that situation, but I guess its not | |

| Dont mess with old school | I tried that, still a no go. Only one external IP and five internal IP's all different. I've posted this question on multiple forums and I still haven't got the answer. I wish I could just use my equipment, at my home it works perfectly. | |

| Vagina Friendly Mayor | Are there any logs from the router? I just read my post above, I'm an idiot, ignore it. | |

| Dont mess with old school | I have now set it up where the netopia is in bridge mode and passes traffic to the router (which I will be swapping out later tonight) and still a no go. So that narrows it down to the netopia router. For some reason it's blocking all the rdp ports I created except one. If I had another dsl router I would try that but I don't. | |
