Was using AVG until I found out it doesn't get rid of virus very well so switched to AntiVir Personal BUT it doesn't have a POP3 scanner. Now looking for a good program to <s>d/l</s> uh buy and am looking for some suggestions. They're soo many to choose from Norton, Panda, Kaspersky, G Data, F-Prot etc.
What are you using?

Only noobs use AV

HA!

Anywho, since I have given up my more ...... risk taking activities online, I haven't used one. However, when I work on someone's machine, I always suggest Norton Systemworks. Comes with good tools and has an AV. Seems to work for my parents and god knows if someone was gonna get an email virus, it would be them.

P180B, E6600 @ 3.6, Evga 680i, Corsair DDR2-1066 Dominator (2*1GB), Evga 8800GTX @ 650/1000, X-Fi XM, WD Raptor 150GB, WD 2500KS, Plextor 755SA, Seasonic M12 700.

I've only had a virus that did anything one time. It was some trojan, and crazy Germans installed an IRC server and were hosting bootlegs on my compy. It took me a week to find out, and it was only after the IRC server caused AVG to crash that I realized that I had a trojan.

I still run naked too this day. Now, I just use linux so it doesn't matter. Whats gonna happen? someone will hack me, then delete my home folder, OH NOES!

Mainly all I can say is, stear the fuck clear off Norton. My experiece of NortonAV is it being a huge lump of shit that runs slow, uses a ton of resources for no apparent reason. Constantly bombards you with useless notifications, and yeah...

Networks Associates, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise has been very good to me (yes a purchased license) So I'm hoping the same can be said about the regular McAfee...

Regular McAfee blows. I've uninstalled it from SO many machines, it makes me sick that Network Associates is still getting away with peddling such smut.

I stand by Norton Antivirus all the way. True, that the new 2005 edition of Norton is a little bit of a hog, but if you tweak it, it shouldn't be too big a deal.

Symantec Corporate Edition, however, rocks. I stand behind it all the way for my clients, and it works great. So, any product from Symantec is good, as long as it's just the antivirus. Don't get into any of those stupid systemworks or internet security suites.

EDIT: Funny enough, since my last install of Windows, I haven't used ANY antivirus on my machine. I don't even get spyware anymore.

I use AVG, mostly to just scan files before I open them. The trick is to catch the virus before it's installed...

But then, I'm paranoid. My nephew's computer has had more than one virus and trojan on it every time he visits... P2P is evil; I avoid it.

I used to use Norton - it didnt do shit - I had to reformat my entire comp because it didnt detect viruses that were there ...

Then I got MacAffe 05, and it works fine but it has a built-in On-Access scanner that makes harddrive/cdrom access times grow explonentionally ... So I dont use any anymore

I haven't used any Anti Virus programs since switching from Windows on my comp. I have to use Norton at Work and it slows the computer down loads.

I've never liked Norton. I use and prefer McAfee over any other AV program out there. The only thing I don't like about it is that you have to go online to download the damn thing before you have any virus protection for the unsafe internet

That, the interface is weird, updating is a pain in the ass, etc..

Norton...buy off the shelf, install the CD, activate, update and voila....done.

I used to like McAfee back in the day when there was hardly any internet, but it just turned to crap.

The McAfee that I use auto-updates almost every day. The interface takes a little getting used to, but at least it's not a resource hog like norton.
