Can you still update your phone, use the warranty, and all other features if it's Jailbroken?

Sort of, yes and yes.

Jailbreaking gives you root access to the phone which allows you to install stuff like this that's outside of Apple's sandboxed area for apps. In order to update you just need to install a new firmware usually. Sometimes you'll have to restore the non-jailbroken firmware first and then update.

seriously, if its an updated, tweaked hosts file.. then why the fuck didnt apple do this in the first place?

edit: well to think of it, i guess giving the customer the "real" internet is what they had in mind.
