I am going to bite the bullet and upgrade my lcd monitor. There is a deal at Office Max this week for a Soyo 24" widescreen lcd monitor. I can afford it because I am selling my old Dell 20" monitor. It is only $299 out the door, so really cheap for 24" but is no frills. Just DVI/VGI and power, well that and audio but I doubt I'll be using that. For more information and the only real review I have found.

3dGameMan.com - #859 - SOYO DYLM24D6 24" LCD Monitor

Should be awesome for gaming on my 360 and as an external monitor to my MacBook.

Never heard of Soyo, you going to buy locally? Off brands just make me really nervous.

They used to make kick ass motherboards. Make sure you get a good warranty though, I have never seen a soyo monitor.

I'm trying to evolve.

Well I have heard a lot of user reports, although those are new users. It is local, well kinda its almost an hour away in another state. But thats still more local than most online places.

Im willing to take the chance for the cost, $299 for a 24" monitor, that is the lowest you can go. I will probably do an imprompto review here, so I will keep you guys posted.

But consider, for about the same price you can get a reliable name brand 22" screen with a 3 year warranty.

biggest advantage from a 22" to a 24" is the 1920x1200 resolution display, at least for me anyways. plus, im sure that lcd is fine since there are only a handfull of companies that actually make the lcd panel. im sure soyo just buys the lcd and puts the plastic and their brand on it. looking at newegg, the cheapest 24" is $430 or so, i say go for it and buy one.

The screen may be made by a common manufacturer, but all of the other circuitry? It's more than just the plastics. And the warranty is key.

EDIT: But if he can pick it up locally it's probably worth the gamble. I'm a nervous nelly so I rarely buy electrics without a nice long warranty.

Well with LCD panels most warranties are shit when it comes to anything like dead pixels. They have clauses like so many dead pixels have to be in a certain grouping before its considered faulty.

I ended up not being able to pick it up, they were sold out when I got there, I did call ahead and reserve one, but when I got there, there were none. I was kind of miffed, cause I went out of my way to get there, but what could I do? Probably the best anyways, less money spent equals more money saved.
