| | Want the forums to be faster? Change these options. | permalink #1 |
| Tweak3D Webmaster | Take this as sort of a tweak guide for Tweak3D. I want to make sure everyone's happy with the site speed, but additional images, avatars, signatures, and some of the things we include on the site (that others may disallow) may cause the site to load a little slower than you want. All of these changes are accessible from your User Control Panel (click User CP in the top left), then click Edit Options on the left column. Scroll down to Thread Display Options (about halfway down), and notice the boxes under Visible Post Elements: - Show Signatures - Show Avatars - Show Images While disabling the auto-displaying of all images may be excessive, disabling the avatars or even signatures would definitely make viewing threads a lot faster. This may take away some of the personality of the site (allowing you to see other users' avatars especially) so it should be used as a last resort for fine-tuning speed. Signatures Only Shown Once Change this to "Yes" to only show the signature of a user once. This is nice when there are a lot of replies from the same person in a thread. Show Post Icons Change this to "No" to hide all the post icons on the thread listings in a forum. These look like: Even if you disable this option, you can specify an icon on new threads, so other users can still know what your threads are about if their icons are enabled. Finally, at the bottom you have the options to change the editor you use for inputing text and the forum skin. The WYSIWYG editor is particularly troublesome on slower computers, but most people will prefer the Standard Editor with EXtra Formatting Controls. Also note that if you click the small arrows in the top right area of the text editor box, you can resize your text input area to make larger posts easier to manage. If you're on dial-up you may want the completely basic editor for speed purposes. Both skins will load equally as fast but you may prefer the darker Metroid skin. | |
