Update 6/22/06 - I can't recommend using Profilepeep anymore. Why? When you login, it creates a cookie on your computer. The point of this cookie is not to make it easy to login to their site. Instead it uses this cookie to FLAG YOU for other Profilepeep users. In other words, if you use Profilepeep, other people with Profilepeep can see you're browsing their Myspace. What's funny is they offer a "premium" service that makes you untrackable. This is a lie. What this service actually does (in theory) is block this cookie from loading so other Profilepeep users can't see you were browsing their Myspace. But the same thing occurs if you simply don't use Profilepeep. I'm sure other trackers exist and they'll probably try to pull the same trick. Oh and FWIW, if you did pay Profilepeep to make you "untrackable", any other site using the same trick (a simple image that finds the previous URL, IP address, etc. via a web log) you're still just as vulnerable. If you've used Profilepeep in the past, your system has a Cookie set that will show other Profilepeep users your login name if you browse their profile, so delete the cookie. Nice try Profilepeep, you shady bastards. === Original story: If you want to know what kind of person (and who exactly) actually reads the crap you call a Myspace profile, this is for you. I noticed on Myspace earlier this week that several of my less computer-savvy friends keep posting links to fake Myspace trackers in their bulletin, that simply show several ads then spread a chain letter using a form (that conveniently pastes the same damn letter to the user's bulletin, showing all their friends, and so-on). Some of the chain letters accused others of being spyware of all things. I had to investigate. As it turns out, most of these sites are simply pulling the same trick mentioned above. But there are a couple that are legitimate. I searched around and found a couple that work pretty well. Profile Peep will show the IPs of most visitors and the profile and pic of some. When you click the IP address, it tells you the city they're in, which using more advanced tools, an experienced user could find out exactly who it is (I remember seeing a Windows app that let you find a user's AIM SN from his/her IP address). The site gives you a very small bit of generated code which easily pastes into your Myspace's profile and is completely hidden from sight (short of viewing the source). The list of readers is given to you in a table format with sort-by-calendar options. In the table you'll find the time they visited, their IP address, and web browser. Some users will also show the Myspace name (linked to their profile), the last visited page (which seems to always show my profile), and even the default Myspace picture. Another site that claims to track Myspace is at Whos On Myspace.com, but the registration process screams scam (or spam). If you can hack through the annoying process post here letting us know how it works. One forum thread I read stated that Myspace deleted the user's code (not his profile) effectively blocking Whos On Myspace - my ProfilePeep account still works, though. Even if these do disappear, just realize they are out there. Search around on Google and you'll realize there are others out there, too -- or so they say. So far my tracker shows mostly friends, about 80% of the users only show IP addresses. Oh, and I seem to have a strong following in Alaska for some reason. Who has the weirdest people checking their Myspace? Set it up yourself to find out. Here's how. 1) Go here to setup a Profile Peep account. It will ask for your Myspace ID. This is the number that corresponds to your account. 2) To acquire this number, put your mouse over your View Profile link, or click your profile and view it. At the end of this link you'll see the number to input in that box on step 1. For example it'll say: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...file&friendid=1234567 3) Once registered, go back to Profile Peep, and login. Click the Tracker Code link at the top. Copy the code to the clipboard. It should say something like this: Code:
 5) Choose "Edit" under "I'd Like To Meet". Paste the tracker code in. 6) Save your changes, then check back on Profile Peep after a short time to see the visitors' information. digg this story |

the reason you only see about 20 percent of your friends is because thats about all the friend id's you tracker can recognize. Wich means that those people are most likely also signed up for that tracker too. You can see when they view your page, and they can also see when you view their page. anyone whos not signed up with that tracker comes up as only an ip. Thats the reason those trackers smap all over myspace so they can get more users, and you can see more people viewing you. id rather stay under the radar and not sign up for that but right now im thinking about making a flash that would be able to log anyone viewing my page, thing is, its kinda illegal. |

I really don't like the idea of people knowing I'm looking at their myspace. Now the girl I think is hot is going to know I keep looking at her page... |

Whosonmyspace does not work anymore. What kind of programs can find the AIM screen name by knowing the IP address. |
