I wasn't going to respond to this thread but this is just getting crazier and crazier... even McCain is booed by his own mob. These people are so ignorant its just ridiculous.

McCain booed after trying to calm anti-Obama crowd - Yahoo! News

Quote:
LAKEVILLE, Minn. - The anger is getting raw at Republican rallies and John McCain is acting to tamp it down. McCain was booed by his own supporters Friday when, in an abrupt switch from raising questions about Barack Obama's character, he described the Democrat as a "decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States."

A sense of grievance spilling into rage has gripped some GOP events this week as McCain supporters see his presidential campaign lag against Obama. Some in the audience are making it personal, against the Democrat. Shouts of "traitor," "terrorist," "treason," "liar," and even "off with his head" have rung from the crowd at McCain and Sarah Palin rallies, and gone unchallenged by them.

McCain changed his tone Friday when supporters at a town hall pressed him to be rougher on Obama. A voter said, "The people here in Minnesota want to see a real fight." Another said Obama would lead the U.S. into socialism. Another said he did not want his unborn child raised in a country led by Obama.

"If you want a fight, we will fight," McCain said. "But we will be respectful. I admire Sen. Obama and his accomplishments." When people booed, he cut them off.

"I don't mean that has to reduce your ferocity," he said. "I just mean to say you have to be respectful."

Presidential candidates are accustomed to raucous rallies this close to Election Day and welcome the enthusiasm. But they are also traditionally monitors of sorts from the stage. Part of their job is to leaven proceedings if tempers run ragged and to rein in an out-of-bounds comment from the crowd.

Not so much this week, at GOP rallies in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Florida and other states.

When a visibly angry McCain supporter in Waukesha, Wis., on Thursday told the candidate "I'm really mad" because of "socialists taking over the country," McCain stoked the sentiment. "I think I got the message," he said. "The gentleman is right." He went on to talk about Democrats in control of Congress.

On Friday, McCain rejected the bait.

"I don't trust Obama," a woman said. "I have read about him. He's an Arab."

McCain shook his head in disagreement, and said:

"No, ma'am. He's a decent, family man, a citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with (him) on fundamental issues and that's what this campaign is all about."

He had drawn boos with his comment: "I have to tell you, he is a decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States."

The anti-Obama taunts and jeers are noticeably louder when McCain appears with Palin, a big draw for GOP social conservatives. She accused Obama this week of "palling around with terrorists" because of his past, loose association with a 1960s radical. If less directly, McCain, too, has sought to exploit Obama's Chicago neighborhood ties to William Ayers, while trying simultaneously to steer voters' attention to his plans for the financial crisis.

The Alaska governor did not campaign with McCain on Friday, and his rally in La Crosse, Wis., earlier Friday was much more subdued than those when the two campaigned together. Still, one woman shouted "traitor" when McCain told voters Obama would raise their taxes.

Volunteers worked up chants from the crowd of "U.S.A." and "John McCain, John McCain," in an apparent attempt to drown out boos and other displays of negative energy.

The Secret Service confirmed Friday that it had investigated an episode reported in The Washington Post in which someone in Palin's crowd in Clearwater, Fla., shouted "kill him," on Monday, meaning Obama. There was "no indication that there was anything directed at Obama," Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren told AP. "We looked into it because we always operate in an atmosphere of an abundance of caution."

Palin, at a fundraiser in Ohio on Friday, told supporters "it's not negative and it's not mean-spirited" to scrutinize Obama's iffy associations.

But Kathleen Hall Jamieson, director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania an author of 15 books on politics, says the vitriol has been encouraged by inflammatory words from the stage.

"Red-meat rhetoric elicits emotional responses in those already disposed by ads using words such as 'dangerous' 'dishonorable' and 'risky' to believe that the country would be endangered by election of the opposing candidate," she said.

I've been watching footage of angry, racist, paranoid McCain supporters all night. It's sad people believe these things...

Agreed. If you support the Republican party for it's economic stance (does it even have one anymore?) it's one thing; but to vote Republican because of the other candidate's name and upbringing? Give me a break.

GACK! Another political flame-fest! I'm not joining! I'm not! I'm not!

*Goofus runs away and buries his head in the sand*

Edit: *pokes head out, and looks* Ah! Not as bad as I thought. Oh well, there are stupid people everywhere. That interviewer annoyed me with that "Is he a terrorist Is he a terrorist" singsongy questioning in "have you beat your wife yet" mode. I wanted to punch him.

I love how McCain supporters are actually the entire reason he is slipping in polls.. every radical, moronic racist is supporting McCain. McCain supporters are living proof that we have a long way to go in tackling racism.. It's disgusting.

The more I see McCain, especially the most recent presidential debate, the more I'm beginning to think he is one of the worst presidential candidates in a long time. I honestly can't tell if he wants to win and I doubt his own base even likes him enough to actually want to come out to vote "for him." They'll come out and vote against Obama, like Kerry voters voted against Bush.

I think if McCain wins, it won't be because of anything he did, and you could probably replace him with a baked potato and it would get as many votes. I really think the Republican bigwigs want to hand the election over to the Democrats and let them deal with the mess for a while.

It's been said many times before, but we do need a viable 3rd party, 4th or even 5th now more than ever, the Democrats and Republicans are blurring together as of late on the largest things that have the greatest negative impact on our nation. I'm trying to discern the difference anymore besides a few social issues, and the issue of government run health care, but even then the Republicans would probably go along so long as there was money involved. On the heels of the bailout, these rotten corporate execs having fun on the taxpayers' dime, the ridiculous bribes thrown in to buy House votes, and Pelosi laughing with Barney Frank as they agree with McCain, Obama, and Bush to financially rape the American people in order to bail out their friends, there really could not be a better time for other political parties to emerge and get a few candidates elected to various offices.

All in all I'm so ready for this election to be over and the dice to be rolled to see which one of the two terrible candidates we are forced to put up with (or survive) for 4 years or if we're really unlucky, 8 years.

Agreed!!
The other thing is that cookie cutter educations have, at this stage in our developement, been prooven to create people that simply will not think for themselve. Teachers don't have time and/or willingness to encourage independent thought. When I did attend school, I was blessed with have a few really good teachers that inspired, motivated and made class interesting all at the same time. Corporal punishment was allowed at the same time and dicipline was enforced. coincidence? I don't think so.
So why is McC's campaigne doing so badly? Why is education not a top priority when it's the key to getting back on track? It's obvious this country is in trouble, and by being where we are, affacting other countries. I want to know why a bigger priority hasn't been put on finding sollutions. Oh, that's right!!.....to find the sollution, you have to admit that there'sa problem and then identify the problem!! There doesn't seem to be a real motivation to identify what the problem really is....we're doomed.

Harvard Business School is an excellent place to start in the short term. The business practices they've been teaching have been at the core of everything that is going wrong now.

I believe it's the Bush legacy that is causing negative campaign tactics to be less effective. Especially these types of negative ads, because people have seen the results of listening uncritically to these types of attacks, over the last 8 years, with the Patriot Act, the DMCA, Guantanimo, Homeland Security, and the Iraq War. The economic downturn will have folks voting their pocketbooks even if Osama Bin Laden were the Presidential Candidate.

I maintain, that if a NWO were to take control, we'd be the one's begging them to take power. What better way to divide and conquer?
politics=divide
financial crisis=conquer
