When listen to music, ANY type or genre of music the lyrics are the last thing i pay attention to. For a while i thought I had some kind of mental incapability to listening, but i find quite a few are the same.

I tend to get lost in the melodic beats and background sounds and it completely drowns out the lyrics, especially when im working or do somthing else and listening to music.

So are you the type that learns lyrics first? Or are you the type to just listen to the sounds?

I wonder what this says about ourselves or brain comprehension?

I listen to the sounds first, and if theres a nice catchy tune that draws me in i will go back and take a closer listen to the lyrics. I usually have trouble hearing the lyrics the first time i will hear the song. Dont know if its like that to everyone or just me.

Music only. I only look at lyrics when I've grown to like the band musically.

100% Melodic....I don't like Lyrics usually...ESPECIALLY in rap.

Do you know of any Instrumental sites/downloads Torx?

It's very rare that I enjoy lyrical stuff....

Sounds like alot of people here are the same way. I wouldn't have guess it though.

naw, no instrumental sites that i know of.

so now maybe artists can stop wasting time on lyrics and just make better music.

I just like to listen and I usually pick up the lyrics a year later.

"...but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope."

I have a really hard time understanding lyrics.

However, that's still what I pay attention to.

And if kinda singing along I'll just make a sound similar to the singer, because half of the time I have no idea what their saying.

I pay attention to music sub-conciously I think. Because I don't focus on it, but my thumbs will still sync to the beat (drumming on my steering wheel)

Melodic, then when I know the song, I go for the lyrics. That is probably the reason I dont like rap, the actual music as way too simple.

Depends on who I'm listening to. 99% of the time, I'm paying attention to the melody, but with Sonic Youth, I focus on the lyrics. You'd understand if you listened to them. It's a lot of poetry and story-telling, and other artsy things.

most of the time i don't give a rat's ass about the lyrics unless it really bothers me. i only listen to the instrumentals.

Depends on the music. I pay more attention to the lyrics on say, Dylan, Marley, most hip-hop, etc.

Most of the time I have music on it is just for the melody, but there are times when I sit and really listen to the lyrics.

Both, i hear the individual instruments or vocals if i focus on sound and if i focus on the lyrics i hear the lyrics, but usually i take in both. Probably why i like MSI so much.

I make myself laugh.

Melodically inclined first, but after the first listen, I usually start listening for the harmonic parts or making them up for myself. Harmony is so much more interesting.
