This will be my 3rd year in a row having duty on the 4th of July... I used to LOVE the festivities at my uncle's house every year prior to my Navy days. But, those are now gone...

Now I am looking at a 24 hour shift, working with my room mate. We bought some steaks (have them marinading right now), some sweet corn, and baked beans. Gonna fire up the grill on top of the barge (parked next to the boat, where we live while we tear this floating turd apart), cook out, and enjoy a nice meal amongst my coworkers. Then, the real party will start Saturday! No plans as of yet, but I'm sure it will be a good time.

What's everyone up to this Independence Day?

Man your 4th of July makes my mouth water already haha. That dinner alone should make the day worthwhile :P

My plans are to hang out with my ex-girlfriend at her aunts house, and probably party hard (been doing a little too much of that lately :\) and eating well. I think it'll be cool since I just kind of started talking to her again, and we did the exact same thing two 4th of July's ago.

I definitely miss the southern 4th of July though.. Legal fireworks, mortar and bottlerocket fights with neighbors and people down the street. Total fun and mayhem, lol.

Exactly

I've seen plenty of fireworks and have had plenty of hot dogs and hamburgers that I don't mind working on the 4th if it means more money

Heh, I still wish I were back home... We had MANY awesome years of great food, incredible fireworks, and great friendship. I really miss being back home. Maybe next year I can work it out to visit home around the 4th.

But, the food should be good. We have a nice charcoal grill at work to use. I'm just not used to using charcoal. I'll adapt, though.

I'll be working, but your 4th of july means nothing up here.. and last year I almost got arrested for setting off fireworks on private property (that wasn't mine) on canada day. so.. yeah I got drunk instead this year.

God, I remember those days... Good luck, man! Have fun, and be a good role model for those below you!

Do you already have the regalia for firebuilder? Do you have a firepouch? Do you have a kit with tinder/matches?

the only difference between warrior and fire builder is a orange ploom between your 2 warrior feathers in your headband. the don't let us carry pouches down here. but during chow if the old medicine man fast squirl is there and does the usual fire builders present yourselves you go up and have to light a match on the dining hall floor, if you are un-successful then you bust your table. but that fun for me doesn't start till next year. we get paint during closing campfire.

Ahhhh, I see. Different traditions compared to Nani Ba Zhu, I guess!

Have fun, man. That's what it's all about. Build character, learn more about yourself, and bring more fame to your scout troop.

Also, if you ever need any help with scouts, drop me a PM. I've been through it all, as I am an Eagle, a member of Nani Ba Zhu, and also a member of the Order of the Arrow.

I would be more than happy to help anyway I can. I was there quite a few years ago, but know how the process works. I will do anything to help another fellow good, honest Scout. I still carry my Eagle Scout ID card in my wallet. I don't care if it helps me out in anything in my life, it's just something I've always been proud of. I worked my ass off to get it, and will gladly help anyone else. Just let me know what you need. I know many people all throughout the US. I can (and will) help you out any way I can.

I'm not doing much in the morning/afternoon. However, I'm doing the usual practice @~7, then at 9, going to a party put on by some folks that my dad works with. These guys know hot do do it: tons of food, tons of booze, and lots of explosives =)

I'm going to fill and detonate balloons. That's about all I can afford to do.
Not going anywhere or doing anything.

I will be deep in the bowels of a factory in Chicago getting them ready for an SAP roll out next Monday. It's the 3-4th time in a row that I've been working on a project over the July 4th holiday.

The fourth is actually a holiday for me as well. The Calgary Stampede starts that day and since the parade is downtown, none of the offices are open.

I am going hiking and staying in backcountry huts in BC.

I'm trying to evolve.
