Every Month it seems that food and gas account for about 40% of my paycheck. I feel like that a ridiculous amount. I've tried eating out less and buying groceries but the numbers just seem to even out anyway. What do you guys spend the most on monthly ?

I Have no sig cause i need no sig

From Most to least

1) Rent
2) Credit Cards
3) Cell Phone

All I see is a black hole, and sooner or later they’re going to suck each one of us into it. But when they come for me, I'm going to take as many of them with me as I can.

1) Debt reduction
2) Mortgage
3) Groceries
4) Car payment

In that order. My mortgage is only about $1100 a month, and we're currently pounding $1500 a month towards debt. Groceries and household items are probably about $800 a month, followed by my car payment at $425. Below that we probably spend $300-400 or so a month eating out. Ridiculous...

Rent, about 3/7 of my paycheck...

Food, otherwise. I spend way too much on food... eating out... groceries. Ugh, it makes me sick, but I can't stop it.

I too have to keep track of expenses. It was still inadequate when i was making 4500 a month and having a good chunk to put towards retirement. I got hit twice from "bubbles bursting' and lost retirement funds both times. Now I had a chunk put away when this housing bubble burst and now it's all gone. Three steps forward and four steps back.
This is supposed to be the busy time of year for my occupation and there is very little work to do. I'm fearfull of this winter. It has been suggested to "change carreers". That is all fine and dandy for one's that haven't 30+years invested and are under 30 as they can gain educations/certs and still be marketable/in demand. try competing for jobs against an overabundance of -30 year olds when you're past 50. The phrase: "a rock and a hard place" comes to mind. When you atre up to your ass in aligators......it's awefull hard to think of how you are going to drain the swamp. This shit hit so fast, one month 3900 bux income and the next 500. The on the job injury fucked me big time. It all happened at the same time and workmen's comp is no help....may be a lawsuit coming reguarding that. Then a theft of essential tools from a job.....still haven't recieved any restitution from that. I've lost heart and am becoming jaded when it comes to the work ethic I grew up with. I did not work my ass off for 40+ years to end up like this. [/rant]

I forgot about gasoline. For both vehicles we spend about $320 a month.

Since my drop in income, gas comes out of the food budget.
